Windows Vista on my new iMac!

Windows Vista on my new iMac!

I love my new iMac!

I got a new 24" iMac a few weeks ago and i LOVE it! the only bad thing is that now we can't video chat with Grandma on MSN Messenger anymore because the Mac version of Messenger does not support video.. We could use Yahoo video chat - but trying to tell grandma over the phone how to download and install Yahoo Messenger, and sign up for a Yahoo account was just tooo much..

So instead, I downloaded Parallels Desktop for Mac which allows me to run Windows in a window, on my iMac! this product is awsome! Parallels is better than BootCamp because instead of dual-booting and having to choose Windows OR Mac at startup, i can run Windows in a VirutalMachine in OS X..

I downloaded the public beta of Windows Vista from Microsoft, burned the .ISO to DVD on my iMac, stuck it in the drive, clicked "start" on the Parallels menu and boom, there was Vista installing in a Mac window.. The install went fine, and the only problem is that now i have to figure out where Microsoft has hidden everything in the new Vista interface... The other problem is that Vista does not support the iSight on my Mac, so i still can't videochat in MSN Messenger! Hopefully there will be support for the iSight camera soon. If anyone has any tricks to get the iSight working via Paralles in either Vista or XP, please post and let me know!

No Games
Macs cannot play games as well as PC's because of the limited graphical abilities unless you want to start spending in the $2000 ranges. I have a Mac Mini and I am satisfied with GarageBand, iMovie, and iDVD. Those are the main apps I use and runs fairly well.

HAHA...my mother bought a dual 2.7gHz G5 so she could play games!!! That and an "occasional" Excel spreadsheet. Mostly she just uses it for playing games, and reading blogs. I want to take it from her, but at least I can go over and use it whenever I want. Plus, I have to keep it running up to par for her, so its a fair trade to get to use it whenever I want to (graphics work!! Macs rule!)

Throw the donkey a waffle. C'mon you know you want to... No? You hate donkeys, don't you?

re: Games on a Mac
You're right about that.. There arent as many games for the Mac..  But if I wanted to play games, I'd get an Xbox.. There is a giant market of people out there (us old folks) that have no intention of playing any games and only want a computer for email, internet, pictures, movies, etc - the basics..  many of those same people don't want to bother with Antivirus, antispyware, windows updates, patches, holes, and lord knows what else - they just want to USE their computer.. For those people, the Mac is a perfect choice..  and for those that say "a Mac is too expensive", the Mac Mini ($500) shuts them up pretty quick..
I hate my imac
Does anyone know why a page takes up to ten seconds to load on an imac? This is an intel core 2 duo! I have traveled back into the dial-up days yet, I still get to pay the roadrunner bill each month!
Slow internet on your iMac
Check the DNS settings on your Mac under Network/AirPort/TCP-IP or Network/Ethernet/TCP-IP. There should be a number like 123.222.222.222 (dont use that number, that's just an example).. If you have any other computers in the house using the same internet connection, you should be able to look at their DNS settings to get the right numbers. worst case, call the RoadRunner support man.. Is this the ONLY reason you hate your new Mac? Many "switchers" have to go thru a learning curve because OS X is different from Windows - but it's EASIER, prettier, stronger, and faster - I guarantee that once you get over the curve, you will love your Mac just like Kent (and me!)
i hate my imac
Actually, I started on a mac. Later, most of my friends had pc's and knew more than me and could help me if I had a pc. I switched back to mac because I was sick of having to deal with a computer meltdown every six months or so. It just seems slow. I'll try what you suggested. Thanks.
i love MY iMac

It was the constant battle with viruses and spyware that made be switch.. me (and the hubby) used to say "Apple computers are for idiots".. but then, after realizing i was spending my time (or hubby's time) updating Antivirus programs, running spyware scans, etc, knowing that Mac users dont have to do this, i began to think who's the idiot?

Then i bought a iPod Nano and was really impressed with the design and style - all the way down to the box! Then, after seeing how well iTunes was designed (even in XP) i really started thinking about Macs.. THEN they came out with the Intel iMacs which let me run XP if I really needed to, and that was just the saftey net i needed!

I love my new iMac!
