Hey all,

First post here and I'll try to keep it coherent. Be patient with me! *grin*

In my web browser [Firefox], when I push the "back" button, the page sometimes pops up where I left it but more often than not, it goes back to the top of the page. This latter issue irritates the daylights out of me! Some web pages can get quite long and then I have to scroll back down and try to find the place I left off.

I am pretty certain this is a Firefox issue. I used Internet Explorer for years up until 4 or 5 months back and I remember IE being much better about returning me to where I left off when I hit the "back" button.

I have been trying to utilize the "CTRL + T" and "CTRL + click link" commands more, but when I get to surfing or shopping, it rarely crosses my mind to use them. Plus, I really do prefer just clicking through one little tab instead of having a half dozen of them open.

Is there a fix to put me back where I left off when I hit back on my browser?

Thanks for your time!
Jessie

Hello Jessiesmind

I think what is happening is the "tab" feature in Firefox...It throws me off all of the time too. Go to "tools", "options", "tabs" and select "new pages should be opened in" and select "new window" instead of "a new tab". Give that a shot.

Good Luck

It's not when a new tab opens up, it is when I click a link that switches to a new page in the same tab. That I am alright with, it's just that when I hit the back button, it's not likely it will put me back in the spot I left off at. Drives me insane - I love reading loooong blog rolls. LOL

Thanks for the reply!
Jess

instead of opening the link in the same tab as the blog, try center clicking, it automatically opens the link in a new tab

On gug pages automatically refresh when you click back and you're taken to the top of the page. I don't think that's a browser issue. Do you have the problem on sites without auto refresh?

hi jessiesmind and welcome to GUG!

i loved your first thread. great inquiry. i'm not going to pretend to know the answer, however, my husband and i, both MAC users, each tried what you described above. his results: yes, returned to the same place on the page after hitting the back arrow. he uses Firefox 3. my results: same, even though my MAC is not as fabulous as his. but i do want to say that when i used IE, i rarely ended up back where i left off. like you, it was hit or miss. may i ask what version of Firefox are you using?

Thanks, Hot2na!

I use Windows XP and I'm still on Firefox 2. I'm waiting on Firefox 3 to come out of Beta before I snag it. I'm not computer savvy enough to make fixes if there's still some bugs in it.

Great to meet you!
