sometimes i see a slash & sometimes i dont. sometimes i have to add the slash to get to a certain site, so im curious to know.

Re: is there a difference with the / "slash"?

Slash is a guitarist with Velvet Revolver

\ is called backslash because it leans back

/ is called forward slash because it leans forward

Re: is there a difference with the / "slash"?

no... a backslash is called a backslash because it's a backwards slash; a slash is called a foward slash to destinguish it from a backslash.... the slash is a mark of puncutation dating to Roman times, the backwards slash only dates to the 1960s and has no use outside of computing...

Re: is there a difference with the / "slash"?

"Forward slashes tell your computer you're looking for something external to your system, like web pages. Backslashes tell your computer you're looking for something inside your system, like a drive or a file."

this info is from http://www.worldstart.com/tips/tips.php/1919

Re: is there a difference with the / "slash"?

Linux and BSD, uses "/" for it's internal filing system; Sun, Microsoft and I think Mac uses "\".....

Re: is there a difference with the / "slash"?

good morning jleo, that is a good ? for illiterates like me. on ragepank.com/ then click on seo then go to" the trailing slash does matter". Apparently it's more important to people who design sites because it makes a difference between being in google's supplemental file or not. but it does matter when going to a certain site, also.  i hope this is helpful juliek
