iPod help needed

iPod help needed

I'm not the gadget type of girl, nor can I afford any of the name brand stuff, so we've always had plain old mp3 and mp4 players. A friend gave my daughter her old ipod.... Here the trouble begins. We were able to listen to the songs she had on there without a problem, I even figured out how to delete them all and make the ipod customized for my daughter. Great! Woohoo! Yippee! A ton of Hannah Montana, HSM and Jonas Brothers songs later..... I unplug the iPod from the computer and give it to her! Lo and behold, when she hits play, no sound is being heard. (Yes the volume is up) If we plug earphones into it, or her iflop pillow thingy, we can hear the music just fine. So what the heck did I do wrong?

How can I fix it? My guess is I changed some setting somewhere, but I haven't the foggiest where. I swear I tried to figure it out, but I have thrown in the towel and decided to ask the experts!

HAHAHA I can't fix them but I can sure as hell break them - killed 2 of the 5 I have. Didn't you see my pics of what one looks like after it has been in the washer and dryer *cries*

I did see that picture, and I must say you beat me out on the crappy christmas season! Though... I think I may have your New Years beat! It involves... You know who....

Re: iPod help needed

LMAO! I did that!  Well, I didn't put it in the dryer, just the washer.  That really sucked because my iPod was out of commission for a couple of months before I got it working again.

Re: iPod help needed (Smartmom, maybe u can help!?)

You have to have the earphones in to hear the sound.  You can't just play it standalone unless you have it with speakers.  The iPod itself does not have external speakers (those have to be purchased). So I do not believe there is a problem with your iPod at all.

Re: iPod help needed (Smartmom, maybe u can help!?)

Since were a house of 4 ipod videos (and 3 of them are my kids) I can give you my scoop on adapters for them.

portable speakers - well any thing that will plug into head phones will work. Old computer speakers work well. One little portable one I found came from Walgreens and was like a little mini speaker that plugged right it - cost me all of $5.00 (it was a stalking stuffer for the little one). Note the one pictured below is not the same one but looks the same (Walgreens didn't show it online)

for the car stereo - I first bought the cassette adapeter thingie (yes very tech. I know). It looked like a cassette tape and had a cord that pluged into your headphones. It worked well for a while then I noticed the sound not so great. But hey it was cheap so not bad for what you pay.

I then moved up to the belkin wireless adapter. Love it. You can choose (you pick) 4 stations that you program (which is real easy) to play on your stereo. You can use it in your car or at home. I even use it on my home stereo. I really like this adapter. Plus it does have a cord that lets you charge your ipod in a ciggy lighter.

Also check out target - they sometimes have great deals on there off brand items for ipods (especially around the holidays).  I know I got Ipod chargers for the car for $5.00 each and they work wonderful (no problems yet)

LMAO... Ok see, I thought that might be the case, but she swore up and down to me, that she was able to listen to the old "yucky" songs previoulsy.

Sounds good to me, my kid just likes to drive me nuts. Maybe she's just used to her old mp4 player that had speakers (you know the nice cheap mp4 player?)

Re: iPod help needed (Smartmom, maybe u can help!?)

You can purchase an adapter to play the iPod music through the radio, it's nice in the car.  There are many types, just look in the iPod section at Target and you can choose the one that best suits your needs.

Re: iPod help needed (Smartmom, maybe u can help!?)

Thats probably it.  I know I wish my iPod had external speakers at times especially when I'm driving in my car.  You could buy her one of those really cute speakers they make for iPods and she could listen to it without the earphones.

And of course, she likes to drive you nuts!  Thats her job!
