I am: Glad I bought a Mac !

OK this one is really easy!
step 1: get your sound file that you would like as your ringtone (i chose the final fantasy victory song from advent children)
step 2: open itunes and put song into itunes
step 3: convert to aac in the advanced pull down menu
step 4: place in ringtones folder in itunes folder
step 5: change extension to m4r
step 6: plug in iphone and voila it is syncing your ringtone that it beleives has been bought through itunes!

have fun!

Re: Iphone ringtones without paying for them

redmeme is right that wont work itunes only allows for ringtones to be 30 seconds but if you use http://audiko.net/ you can upload a song from your computer and edit the part your want as a ringtone and even put a fade in and out on it and then publish it and choose the download link for the iphone the site converts the ringtones into itunes compatiable then just open the file in iTunes and sync with your iphone

or you could use http://www.audiko.net and upload a file from your computer and edit the part your want as a ringtone and select the iphone format then just import that song into iTunes and sync i used it to create a ringtone for inside the fire you can also search the ringtones other people have created and preview them before you download.... oh and i forgot you and also chose to have the song fade in and out or not its really great if you dont have a mac with garageband.

Re: Iphone ringtones without paying for them

this doesn't actually work!I have tried this many times, and I went into my ringtones file and the file actually says "RING" the converted file with the new extension only comes up as MPEG4. I also think that you can't just take any old file because it has to be 30 seconds!

grr

Re: Iphone ringtones without paying for them

Very good tip! Also, if you have an Iphone with the installer.app, you can download the "ringtones" application.
