Is there a way to track a users ip address from the messages they send send you on myspace?
Tracking IP through email messages
I tried using mixmap to track an ip through a message, but it didnt work, one time i tried profile snitch, and it worked great, i suggest profilesnitch.com if you want to track an ip through myspace messaging
The only stupid question is the one that remains unasked

Yes and no.
You can use the IP address to go back to the provider to do something like get the IP address owners name and adddress given (not neccisarily the current location or the actual person that was using the acount) and of course you have to be Law enforcement or such, preferably with a warrent before the Internet company would provide you with such information
Modern Computers and Users of the Internet are not "Hardwired" into the Internet anymore with all this wireless technology and IP services using things like "virtual IP", "Dynamic IP" and so forth so tracking a Laptop using a Broadband on a Private Airplane might make you track the physical IP to the nearest "Hardwire" point which may be 1000 miles away from the actual location, and only the Provider could tell you if that was a Dynamic or Virtual IP that was being used at that Physical point (the Physical IP would be on the Broadband card, and only the Provder could backtrack...with a warrent)
Hey! i searched GuG for this Q but...didn't really know if there'd be more info in our lovely restricted forum
i've got mixmap on myspace and therefore IP addresses.
1) is there any way to tell whose IP address it is? (it tells me a long/lat. when i put it into DNSstuff and maxmindGeoip but no business or anything)
2) is there any way to see from an outlook email sent or myspace message sent 2me or anything that i've received from a person what the IP address was? or do you need to put a tracker in always to get that info?
(to compare IP addresses 2c if it's the same person)
thanks a bunch!!
If your talking myspace yes block trackers and that will hide your IP address. In emails use a email like gmail and use it via the web mail (not pop forward) and they will only see googles IP in the internet headers. If your surfing other sites and want to hide your IP you can use a proxy. Changing your IP - well sometimes resetting your modem and router will flip it. Some ISP change it everytime you log in (like AOL).
Finding someones IP addy. Well you can add a tracker that will track them if there not blocking like above. You can also in a email (not a myspace email) look for the "internet headers" and look though that for their IP.

I'm not sure if this helps in this situation but there are some sites that track the receiver of a regular email, like didtheyreadit.com.
So if you want to know someone's ip and you have their email, you can sign up for one of those sites and track them from there, like send them a fake message from a secondary hotmail account or something.

i have some questions about these services
1. are these services just adding an image tracker to the email?
2. how can they really tell how long it was viewed?
3. how can i tell if someone is sending me emails with this type of tracker in it?
4. how can i block these trackers? & if i am already running ABP & NoScript, am i blocking them already?
5. can a person add image trackers like mixmap etc... to email addresses they compose to track them on their own? (i dont think this person is smart enough to embed a JS/mime type script in the emails. but i also dont have the patience to search for them in the messages' code)
i ask b/c some freak keeps sending me nasty emails (not myspace messages but to my email address) and he's doing other weird online freak-behaviors as well. i want to know if he's tracking to see if i read the emails b/c each message gets progressively more nasty. i tried nicely telling him to back off when he was just being pushy not mean but that didn't work. once he turned freaky i ended all interaction then he started getting nasty. and it didnt seem to matter that he only ever got three very short emails from me to begin with, he created some "us" in his mind. i block his ID on the site (not myspace) and he just creates new ones to send me nasty messages from. if i end up having to report him to his ISP or some other authority i want to be able to present them with as much info as possible about the harassment.
any advice/info will be much appreciated!
