Apologies if this topic is the wrong place. I did a search for this & couldn't find the answer I was looking for. This is not strictly/only to do with myspace. ------------------------------------------ I post at various forums from time to time. On one forum, the horrible IMDB, another user called me by a username I use elsewhere but not there. It could be that this user got lucky and guessed. Or, is it possible that she was able to see or identify my IP address in some way? I made contact with this user through their myspace and it seemed I pissed them off. If I did piss them off it was absolutely unintentional. I sent her a complimentary message about a poem she blogged on her public profile. Her profile is now private. She did not respond to me through myspace. I'm assuming I pissed her off cos she was silly/nasty to me at IMDB. I use Firefox as my broswer, have installed adblock & uploaded the blockers from here. I regularly update these as they are updated here. I rarely posted at IMDB & have now deleted my profile there. There's no point in hanging around a place that has bad vibes & attitude!
IP address tracked through posting on various forums? Possible?
I meant to update here to give my considered but unsubstantiated opinion on what happened with someone 'guessing' who I was on another forum.
I post at yet another forum fan site that the user where have been able to directly access my IP address through the forum owner. Through another direct contact they would have been able to track my IP at IMDB.
But why these people felt the need to wasted time & energy on such a thing I don't know. Kinda pathetic really.
I would say she was lucky on guessing your other username.
As for the IP address - well if you sent her a email then yes she could pull your IP address from your internet headers on the email. Some email addresses (I beleive gmail is one of them) will let you block your internet headers in your email.
The internet headers are the properties of the email that will show you the return path of that email along with that emails properties - like your IP. To see this - if you use Outlook Express:
Click on the email (open it)
go to file - uper left hand corner
go to tools
properties
details tab - woo la there are the Internet Headers for that email.
you can also see it if you use web mail but every one is different on how to find them (just look for the properties of that email).

Thank you SmartMom!
i wasn't aware that your IP address can be attached to and tracked by so many things. I have started using gmail but have been using yahoo mostly until recently. That's another great tip & piece of advice.
This site is amazing for this kind of thing - so cool!
