Never cracked open a MAC notebook. SODIMM I assume?
You can use virtual memory
Just be sure to know what you are doing before you adjust it.
lol noob alert what is virtual memory and what does it do when i use it, also how do i adjust it... lol
Newegg.com has great prices on RAM... I'll look for a tutorial... but I bet there are members here that will help walk you through it once you're ready to install.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.
Just to show you what a great deal that newegg has right now you can get:
OCZ SLI-Ready Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail
for 61.99 after rebate (that works out to $15.50 a GB - not bad at all). OCZ makes great ram (this is what I got and yes what Foamy recommended to me). I have that ram in my one sons gaming rig so the speed is very fast and you can overclock it which is a big plus.
I agree Newegg is the best for prices. Also ram is getting ready to jump in prices (this summer). You also need to make sure you know if you need DDR2 or DDR3. They are going to stop making the DDR2 which will drive the value up. I'm in the process of having 2 customs pc's being built and I did shop around and yes newegg treated me well
and I got 6gb of ram though them.
Foamy told me that if it was the right pin count you're fine... but from what I can tell, the pin count seems to keep everything else in similar categories (ddr, ddr2 etc...)
I've always been told just not to mix different RAM...
Maybe go to the one site GIMorale mentioned to find the type you need (that's compatible) and then search Newegg for it for good prices?...

sounds like a good idea ive never really done anything like this, but dont think it would be that difficult to pull off... or so ive heard. all you gotta do is unscrew the thing and push in this big chip looking thingy lol
Sounds good to me! lolz. When I set up mine they recommended to leave it in the anti-static packing it came in until your just about ready to insert it. And it really isn't difficult at all except, I cut myself. My nails got in the way, ugh it was a mess. yea I'm a winner.
Yep... pretty much... if you take out some of your ram, you'll see how it's installed... just do the opposite of what it takes to get it out
... that's how I learned...
Granted desktop ram is what I struggle with... but laptop ram is easy.

I've ordered RAM in the past thru http://www.crucial.com/
I found it pretty easy to use as you can find out exactly what kind of RAM your computer needs by inputting the make/model etc.
G'luck.
