An oldie- but a goodie! It shows his intelligent side, and his silly side. He isnt all doom and gloom like so many people unfortunately believe.
I love Marilyn Manson
Here's my humble take on Marilyn Manson. I have a few of his CD's. Brian Warner hit a gold mine with this persona he created. He did it at the right place at the right time. He's a major geek (which he admits) and he found a way to exploit his geekiness, get into music, and sell shows and records. He's a genius IMO and I enjoy his Marilyn character very much.
But his persona is Anti-Christ-like. He's making millions from it. If I were a believer in God, I would have no choice but to discount Marilyn as a slithering spawn of Satan - no ifs ands or buts. If you like the Judeo-Christian god, you can't like Marilyn. There is no other choice unless you want to change your religion's rules. Poking fun or not, serious or simply a character, he is what he is. If you believe in God, you can't discount or overlook what Marilyn Manson is.
His music? I like a few of his songs but with my personal taste, a little of Manson goes a long way. Hearing one means I heard several and I'm not too much into computer-generated techno. But like I said, that's just my personal taste.
His art is visual in his videos and live shows. Try this. Imagine the same music coming out of someone that looks and dresses like Elton John. Doubt there would be very many takers there. Doubt you could even give it away. His image is what sells and he's done very well marketing his character's image. He IS Marilyn Manson and is no longer geeky Brian.
And I really miss Daisy and Twiggy. Anyone heard what they are doing? It's just not the same.
Good point! But why would someone sell their soul for earthly posssesions like fame and money? Then spend eternity burning. Is it really worth it!!??
Listen closely, I dont think people realize that this earth is like heavan for people going to hell. And this earth is like hell for people going to Heavan.
I guess that really all depends on what you believe. I don't believe in God, Heaven, or Hell. I think the very concept of an omniscient being watching and judging every aspect of my life is flat out absurd, and I think it's even more absurd to believe I can be punished eternally for a few acts. So, what Brian/Marilyn does isn't sinful in my view, just him expressing himself, like you seem to be doing, all over the boards.
"How do you know I'm mad?" asked Alice.
"You must be", said the cat, "Or you wouldn't have come here"
well put ladyc!
and stevie, it's all about the bottom line $. brian found a way to capitalize on his persona. again, bravo!

You are right it does depend on what people believe. But I would rather be safe than sorry in the end. Why not? We buy health insurance at work just in case we need it. Whats wrong with a little fire insurance as we call it in church.
Am I gonna get kicked out of this board now?
I didn't mean to get a religious thing going, but Marilyn IS a controversial character and his character is connected with religion.
His character brings conflict, that's for certain. I don't know what Brian's beliefs are. Maybe he IS a believer and he's pissed at his creator about that overbite that got him teased up until graduation. Maybe he simply doesn't believe that a supreme being exists and is using the taboo/shock thing as a tool.
Some people understandably think it's inconceivable that others do not share their belief in a god. On the other side of the coin, there are those that cannot make themselves believe in a supernatural being.
But lets not let ourselves get divided here about it. Let's just look at Marilyn as just a regular dude with rubber pants, makeup, metal teeth, a fart hose, and a freaky eye.
i'm 100% in agreement stevie. however, i cannot seem to keep from staring when i happen to catch him featured on ET! or an equivalent. he is just so unusual looking when he is marilyn...in so much as, it makes me want to look more. mini me thinks his make up is done by a professional. i tell her he has probably mastered the application of such himself. so we debate that subject often!

Some people like to take the "safe" path through life, and that's fine for them. if I can quote Mary Chapin Carpenter for a moment
Now some people say that you shouldn't tempt fate
And for them I would not disagree
But I never learned nothing from playing it safe
I say fate should not tempt me

That's an awesome quote. Kudos to you, LadyC!! I think that phrase pretty much sums it all up. Love quotes, keep 'em coming!!!

ooh, I like that.
Marilyn Manson is definently not one of my favorites. His music isn't too bad, but the whole hot topic movement bugs me. Seeing all those mall goths wearing Marilyn Manson shirts really bugs me. I tend to judge bands by their fans. I guess that isn't a very good thing, but I'd rather not change.
OMG you guys are just babes in the cradle.does anyone remember jim morrison pleasuring himself on a miami stage in the summer of '69. or jimi hendrix seducing girls everywhere with the song that rolled on "make me cream, make me cream". i was in 6th grade the 1st time i heard it and i didn't know what it meant until 2 years later! and i didn't know i could do that for many years to come. (no pun intended) lol but not to get too far away from the subject of the post...MM is a genius, intellectually and with his music. his book left a little to be desired, but, oh can he sing...jk
Oh im not claiming MM is by any means the king of shock value. Hell, elvis held the title if you really think about it. Im just trying to show everyone that even though he dresses "like a freak" and has...questionable...lyrics, hes really a pretty down to earth, intelligent, interesting guy!
I love MM... was supposed to go to his show in January, but I was uninvited by the d*ck of a boyfriend because he wanted a guys night out... he kept trying to tell me I don't like MM, and I wouldn't have a good time.... I hate stupid people... I still resent him for it.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.
I have to respectfully disagree about MM being the original "shock-n-awe" factor, Hot2na! Ozzy, Alice Cooper, Kiss... shoot even Ted Nugent were commiting "oh, my God, did I really just see that?!?" moments long before MM hit the scene.
That being said, I'm a Marilyn Manson fan, too!
I have to respectfully disagree about MM being the original "shock-n-awe" factor, Hot2na!
you are right! the founders actually!! i was referencing MM probably for gen-x people. but i too grew up w/alice. he lives here. i'll never forget the welcome to my nightmare tour! and bowie's ziggy stardust. O-M-G!

LOL I just downloaded some Bowie. Well, okay... It was his music from the Labyrinth soundtrack, but still! David Bowie is awesome!
I'll definitely concede that MM brought "shock-n-awe" back to Generation X. (I think that's my generation, actually. Not sure.) There were some others, mainly in the metal scene, but MM put it back into the "mainstream" as much as MM could be considered mainstream.
