Hurricane season

 Oh I'm sorry about the family in Louisiana yeah that has to suck.  Gustav has really made some odd shifts in its path.   I know I'm watching Hannah (I didn't know what the "H" name was going to be).  Hey alteast we already have shutters on half the house.  Hurricane season is a pain in the butt!

 

 OK well here are some tips:

Take pictures of every thing in your house and outside your house - everything.  Lots and lots of pictures not just of the china cabinet but open the drawers on it and take pics of the contents of it.  Do not just store them on your home pc - if you loose the house the pics are gone.  Upload them to like walmart or walgreens.  You don't have to print them out but hey easy access if you do plus they can burn them to a cd for you.

Make sure you have lots of gas (the lines get wild fast and early).  Fill up your cars and any cans you have.

Lots of water plus get some plain bleach (no lemon bleach and no ultra bleach).   The bleach is in case you need to disinfect the water.

Lots of can goods and non perishable items to eat.  If you have a generator then get some fridge stuff because you might not see any fridge stuff for a while.

lots of flashlights (and extra batteries)

games - you will get board so get some cards or a couple good books to read.

 Well overnight Gustav has really changed its path - yikes this one is scary.  This is one that could turn into one of those mega beasts.  Since the track doesn't have it going over land while weaker (not that its weak now) it has nothing but room to grow.

Ah, I always worry during this time..... I have an aunt that lives about an hour south of N.O. and about an hour from the coast of Louisiana.... And now I have mommy and others to worry about as well! Oh dear... I still have a bad feeling Hannah will be worst (People who were in the chatroom last night will understand). New Orleans has just gotten back to pupping capacity and have turned back into a flourishing city.... I do hope the thing just dies.... Though we all know its not that simple.

 Oh my kids are back in school today.  I can finally see my dock behind the house (it was 2' under water).  There is still alot of standing water everywhere but for the most part things are back to normal.

Last I heard they thought it would exit the state to the atlantic then come back in around Jacksonville.  Then make its way up though GA so rays - you might want to watch this one.

Yeah the a couple county's above me are getting hammered.  One think I can say is that my county is really good at water management and opening the water way locks so that the water would not flood us.  If they didn't do that I would probably have had the lake up to my pool.  One disadvantage of that is generally when they do that (open all the locks) we end up with a few new gators.  We have 4 gators now - 4 years ago we only had 1.  No clue what we are up to now the jury is still out.  My county did get 14" of water in two days but all you see now is some big puddles - no new lakes per say.

I've haven't slept this well in months... 12 straight hours I think.

No work today, they closed up shop. But I have to work tomorrow instead.

The storm went in well south of me, so all we got was the weaker side. From what I can see on the news, Smartmom may be getting it worse as the storm moves across the state and the stronger bands hit in her direction. They're actually saying it may go out into the Atlantic and then turn around to hit N. FL or GA...

So how's it going over there, Smartmom?

Nope not done its over the lake right now (the eye) and I'm just east of the lake.  The west side of the storm is the worse so I think we have seen most of the bad stuff but its still raining here on and off with the bans coming though.  I havent lost electric in the last 3-4 hours so that is good.  No news on school but they cant run the buses if the wind is too strong so I dunno.  I hope its closed.

No sirens here so it was the tornado (unless there is a train somewhere close that I don't know about).  It was just weird 2 blocks away!

 

I swear, that shot with the bleachers was just on CNN like 1/2 an hour ago!!!  Freaky stuff, glad you're OK!

Oh joys they just said they would be watching it (the school board) and make the call on Sunday if the kids will have school.  My kids are excited and hoping for no school and I am not happy.

yeah devil here is the path prediction (same one I'm talking about with us tuna - we are in the code of error).  Its pretty much going to come knocking on your door from the looks of it.  

they are saying atleast here on the news that it should be a hurricane.  You best rethink the getting ready plan.  I shouldn't have to tell ya about getting ready since you and I are becoming hurricane pros.  My hubby I think is heading to the keys to pull the boat out of the water with my dad at the house there.
