SO many problems with my hp & windows xp pro.......

SO many problems with my hp & windows xp pro.......
LONG ONE HERE...I bought my comp in China, and now have to fix it up, I might end up pulling a format on it, any help is cool..... 1)I have downloaded multiple viruses through MSN, now my comp detects them randomly, somedays there, somedays not. My antivirus says it cleans them, and then later one is back. I have uninstalled MSN, in an attempt to rid myself of the mass MSN messages that my comp is sending to people, trying to spread the virus. 2)I have two language programs on my computer, Chinese and English. The Chinese version was added after the Eng version, now it has made it impossible to get Windows updates, because my comp says it is not a genuine product. 3)I have no software for my comp, I think I want to format, I will need to try to buy them here, in a legit store (which is harder then it sounds). ****Any recommendations, on how to remove the Chinese windows? Can I? With the combo of problems, is a format the best option, I have nothing on the computer I would miss, if everything is erased.

Thanks for the input, I don't have any disks, so that is what I am seraching for right now here in Beijing. I do not speak computer Chinese, just conversational basics! When I get the Windows, if I can find a legit version, I will be thankful for these instructions! Helpful!

are you in China? Do you know Chinese? What's your primary language? A re-install sounds like it'd be the least stressful and easiest option at this point. Do you have an install/restore CD or a "C:\i386" directory on your computer? step
  1. : download; AVG Free (look for the free version), Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware, DirMS-S and Buzzsaw-S, and either Firefox or Opera (and if you are in China, you might also want to check out various anomization and encryption software (and even if you aren't in China); I'd recommend TrueCrypt for stuff you store on your hard-drive, along with Tor for web surfing and either that, i2p or Freenet for "buisness", and either i2p or Mutenet for p2p)
  2. : put those, and anything else on your computer you want to save on back-up media
  3. : if you have....
    • .... an install disk, you are all set!, goto the next step.
    • .... a restore CD, find the following directorys: "I986", "DOTNETFX" and "DOCS" (though only the "I986" directory is absolutely nessicary, those are the three directorys you need to create a complete install disk.); copy those directorys to your computer, then pop in a CD-R and burn those directorys to disk.
    • .... a "C:\i986" directory on your computer, just burn that to disk.
  4. : unplug your internet
  5. : put the disk that you already had or just now created into the CD drive, and it should give you a window that ask's what you want to do; you want to Install.
  6. : from here, it should be pretty self-explanatory; chose NTFS for any partitions (unless you backed up your stuff to a seperate internal Hard Drive, inwhich case do not format that drive), and go through all the advanced options if you want support for the Chinese Language
  7. : after you are done installing XP, install all that software that you backed up
  8. : goto Start Menu>Control Panal>Add or Remove Programs>Side Tab's-Add/Remove Windows Components on the scroll menu, make sure you have the following selected (if it's a greyed check box, click it until it's a black check in white box):
    • Indexing Services
    • Networking Services
    • Update Root Certificates
and also make sure that you have the following unselected:
    • MSN Explorer
    • windows Messenger
    • Internet Explorer
    • : plug your internet connection back in and set that up
    • : activate Windows XP
