How young is to young to commit a crime?

How young is to young to commit a crime?

How young is to young to commit a crime?  Here is a one that yes the child is young but this child needs some serious help.  Its shown that kids that abuse animals tend to go on to humans.

Boy, 7, fed live zoo animals to crocodile

This boy feed 10 LIVE animals to the crocodile.  Where are the parents?

Police spoke to the boy and his mother yesterday but cannot press charges because he is too young.

This boy may be to young to prosecute but OMG he needs some therapy.  So at what point does a child become old enough to know what is right and wrong?  See on top of feeding the crocodile he also beat to death 3 lizards to death.  I really hope this child gets some help and I do think the parents should be made liable is some sort of way (as in the cost of the loss the zoo suffered).

Center director Rex Neindorf said the behavior was "disgusting''.

"I'm just devastated at the age of the child and the fact no one wants to take responsibility,'' he said.

"The fact a seven-year-old can wreak so much havoc in such a short time, let alone even think of doing something like this, is unbelievable."

Abuse of animals is often a bad sign. I worked with emotionally disturbed students for a few years and 3/5 had abused or killed an animal then moved on to SOMEONE else as they got older.

Feeding an animal another animal is a hard one though. If we give a kid a snake and have it feed a live mouse to the snake we aren't teaching it to murder we are teaching the food chain and how animals eat other animals to survive. It wouldn't be right to judge a seven year old based on a single act such as this. He obviously needs still needs someone to teach him what is appropriate and what isn't however.

Good point but this kid also smashed lizards with rocks. He wasn't just feeding the gator. He was killing things.

Ok I admit I couldn't muster enough courage to read the whole thing...still can't.

Re: How young is to young to commit a crime?

being evil is not an exact science.  some of the most notorious serial killers originated from perfectly normal/healthy families.

Oh that reminds me of the show Most Evil on Investigation Discovery. They have a "scientific" scale of what is "most evil". Good show. Great channel.

Funny. When I read the title to this post I was going to mention this seven year old boy. My daughter is seven and I can't imagine her doing something like this. He's a future serial killer no doubt about it.

This is sick.  Man, do you guys ever watch Animal Cops?  It comes on Animal Planet usually around 10PM CT.  Well, they had a cruelty case on there, where an 10 year old (if I remember correctly, may have been 11 or 12) tied a cat to the back of his bike and dragged it across the concrete road.  That cat had severe burns all over his body.  Now, the judge awarded the custody of the animal to the animal shelter and basically told the police to find that boy and prosecute him.

Ok, so my mom grew up in Mexico and well over there they don't really care about their pets, much less stray animals. My mom was such a trouble maker growing up, she said that her and her siblings (she had 10 siblings) would give cats Alka-Seltzer in their water to see them explode. They lived in a small town and would have to find ways to entertain themselves. Yes I know it sounds horrible, but I guess in other countries they just don't care for animals as much as people do in the U.S. Is she a serial killer or an abusive person now? lol, not at all. sometimes kids are just kids and may know something is wrong but not think it's that serious. So my grandparents never found out of the trouble they used to get into, then again if i had 11 kids it would be hard to keep track of them myself.

Re: How young is to young to commit a crime?

It's quite strange, b/c just yesterday a few coworkers and I were talking about how in other countries they don't take in any regard for animals as we do here in America. However, I still don't see how that would lead someone no to have human decency to spare another living thing.

Something is terribly wrong with that child. Usually when a child acts on in that way it's b/c of a traumatic experience that triggered this behavior. The fact that this child was unsupervised at the time and wandered off alone is not the bigger issue here. A "normal" 7-year old wouldn't commit these acts of sadism when left to their own devices. Most 7-year olds might be frightened or adventerous at most if they found themselves without an authority figure around. So I think they really need to get the child help, and figure out what happened to him in his earlier years that could've triggered such behavior.
