How many hits do you really get on myspace?

Ok so I was really curious to how many times my myspace was really hit. After all most of us here block trackers so I don't track you. Yes myspace does have a counter but it only counts you once a day regardless if you hit my profile 100 times that day. So I added a counter to my myspace. You can't block counters and it will tell me how many hits my page really gets. WOW I was surprised I clocked about 1600 additional hits this week alone (I just added it on Labor Day - 6 days ago). Now I get alot of hits from here anyways but I was curious to how many I really get. Never had a clue it was that many more. Now the counter that I used let me start the number at any number I wanted so I started it at the same number my myspace said that I had. My numbers are now 1623 hits apart. I dunno something kinda fun to add. Here is a couple of sites that you can get a free counter (I got mine from the first site):

Well, My "blogs" are for recipes for such things as Laulau and other Hawaiian Food, Candies, and other stuff.

Changed the Screen Name from ArchiAngel to my real name (Frank Alverio) and replaced the Image of St. Nathan with my Photo of Myself and removed all my Personal Diary experimental stuff and replaced it with Recipes and Photos from around Las Vegas during my Vacations and Hawaii and my Page seems to get more hits now....really weird...lol

Lot of it are anonymous viewers, but if they learn how to make Laulau, Poi, or gummy bears out of it then good for them ;p

Do I have trackers? Nope those things take up banswith,memory, and lags load time.

Even stripped down my "free" background to save loading time and possibly passing a adbot or such to visitors to my page. (It isn't cool to have a "Cool Page" that jams up the computer of someone trying to see it is it?)

I know how many time my recopies have been read cause of the Home page blog management thingy telling me how many times my recipe Blogs were viewed

Do you have a tracker for your blog? How do you know many of the hits are anonymous?

I also get (supposedly) a lot of hits to my blog, and I can't explain them. I used to just get only a few hits from friends who I guess visited my blog after I posted something (I have a total of **gasp** 3 subscribers!!!).

But now, I get at least one hit per day according to the myspace counter (especially, the second--not an exageration--after I post a new blog entry). Though according to mixmap, that's not accurate at all. For example, I have not posted a blog entry since september 27, but today alone, I have 7 hits recorded (and 14 total for the "week" which I think started yesterday). But mixmap says I have not had a visitor since Sept. 29th.

Someone here in GuG once mentioned that the other hits might be from a webcrawler. But why would a webcrawler add so many daily hits to my blog? I can understand perhaps 1 or 2 extra ones after I post a new blog, but on a daily basis???

Does anyone have any other plausible explanation to this weird phenomenom???

My original Song was deleted by the Artist cause my site was screwing up their bandwith,thus knowing about all the extra hits...lol

Trackers,don't use them, as such tech is a 2 edge sword easily turned on the user into a phishing device.

Your tracker is probablly tracking everytime YOU look at your page as a "hit" and move around your page...lol (And probably following your surfing habits on Myspace as long as you are logged in)

I noticed that everytime I log into trackspace and click check visits, my hits go up 2

Trackspace always adds a hit or two to your count. (reason unsure, unless trackspace hits your profile for some reason during the time you are logged in.)

Also, remember that trackspace has other trackspace members logged in at the same time as you, and they can click at the top of trackspace's main page to view other trackspace members that are online. This is a good reason to set your trackspace account to private so that it shows a lockpad instead of a link to your profile. (they say making it private can make the tracker work less effective, but I personally have never seen it work less effectively)

so when other members hit your profile via trackspace memberbase, it will add hits to your counter as well, and their hits wont show on your tracker.

I have mine set to private. Smartmom recommended I do that a while ago, and I took her advice. So that wouldn't explain the 2 counts I had a few minutes ago. Further testing will be needed. Next time I sign in to trackspace I will check my profile views again to see if I get the same results.

I have mine set to private too. I always get 2 hits when I sign in, thats why i posted that those come from trackspace hitting your profile for some unknown reason.

When i used to not have it private, I would get alot of profile hits. Anyways, the way that trackspace's system works--trackspace hits your profile for some unknown reason. Its always been that way Smiling

You will notice this with some other trackers too.

Thanks for catching that! I just signed in to trackspace myself, and saw my profile views count go up by 2 also!! once when I first signed in, and second when I changed the hits list from 24-hour to past week. Then, when I tried going from "week" to "28 days" or some other hits list, the count didnt go over the original 2.

weird huh???

I don't know about that. I didn't have that many hits to my blog (not my profile, but my blog) until only a few months ago. Before then, my blog visit count would stay at 0 most of the time when I didn't post a blog entry (and even after I posted an entry! lol). But not anymore.

I am thinking that maybe someone might have an rss feed on it. Though honestly, since I've never use rss feed, I have no idea howit works. Thus I'm more than speculating here. Sticking out tongue

Maybe someone has an RSS feed on your comments . . .like the feed offered on HITS? I wondered how many "counts" an RSS feed would run up.

Nope counters are not blocked. I guess you probably could block some but there are thousands of different counters out there (unlike trackers). Not to mention they don't tell me who it was who hit my profile only the number of hits. Just something fun to add but not a way to track another person. Also if the person is clicking around on my profile it records every click as a hit. Like if they read 3 blogs then I show 3 hits. So my extra 1600+ hits this week also accounts for ppl who were surfing on my myspace too.

Counters are just as easy to block as trackers but, like you said, there'd have to be tons more entries on the gug block list.

I don't know why it would be necessary to block counters when they really don't show anything. As for blocking the zillion different ones out there the only problem I could see is that if you use one like at Pyzam then ppl are going to have problems with using their graphics and comments (like there funny pictures). Counters are just fun to show a count but there is no way to track who the counts are from.

Good luck with gathering the counter list if you plan to do that - it's going to be mighty long.......

Usually when I see a stat counter/tracker/ I block the url.
