HOW DO I SPEED UP MY COMPUTER

Assuming you have Windows XP

1) Get Advast Anitvirus http://www.avast.com/index.html and Spybot S&D http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Install advast first, which has a smaller memory footprint then Norton or Mcfee and with it installed you can drop the Microsoft Firewall and any web and mail scanning programs as they cover that too freeing up memory

Spybot will replace any more questionable programs that let ads and spyware, adware, and mallware through like Norton and Mcfee, Stopsign and so forth, but install it after uninstalling Norton and the other "sell out" programs and installing Advast and don't forget to activate the Tea timer

2) Clear out the Startup folder of uneccesary programs that don't need to be in memory until you need them by clicking on "start", clicking on "all Programs", click on "Start up" and remove programs.

3) Click on "Start", click on "run", type in "Mscomig" and click "OK", click on "services" and remove any MSN Messenger programs, click on Start up and lokewise remove and Messenger, Quicktime, calader, and like resident services. In some cases you may need to tell the program directly to not load on start up. Click on "Apply" then "okay"

In Internet Exploerer

1) Click on "Tools"

2) Click on Internet Options

3) Click on Browsing History "Delete"

4) Click on "Delete Files"

5) Optionally (especially if you surf via the search bar) click on "Delete History"

6) Click "Close" then Click on Browsing History "settings"

7) Click on check on newer versions of pages "Automatically" if it isn't so, and bring the disk space used down to 10 MB

8 ) Click on the "store history" down arrow and bring count down to 0 days (or type 0 in the space)

9) press "okay" to exit History settings

10 ) click on Advance

11 ) Scroll down to Security

12 ) Check "Empty Temporary Internet files on Exit"

13 ) Click on the "Apply" buttton

14 ) Click on the "Ok" button

Check you file structre by

1) Clicking on "Stert", Click on "all programs", click on "accesories", click on "System Tools", click on Disk defragmentor

2) Click on "Alalyze"

3) If Windows recomends a defrag then do it.

Fimal notes:

1) Run Advast and Spybot at least 1 time a week and Spybpt after each time you surf Myspace

2) If you are on cable modem set up Spybot to aujomatically update everytime it is started and Advast to update it's program and Database automatically

Re: How do I make my computer faster ?

add RAM, add RAM with a higher FSB and lower latency, get a HD with a shorter seek time, larger cache and a higher read/write speed, get HD w/ SATA 3.0 interface, get mobo with SATA 3.0 interface and higher bus speeds, get a faster processor with larger l2 and l1 caches........

...sometimes miracles are impossible...it would be nice if you put your configuration here so people around could help...still love !

Re: How do I make my computer faster ?

you can start with what p to the izzle said which is really key to shutting down alot of unnecessary programs running that will take up RAM

and then you can also turn off indexing by going to my computer, tools, folder options, view tab and then uncheck the box that says automatically check for network folders and printers, hit apply and ok.

then go to start, run, type services.msc and scroll down to indexing services and disable it completely. right click it and then go to properties and click on disable in the drop down, apply and ok.

third: Go to start, and right click my computer them go to properties then the Advanced tab, then the settings tab and check for best performance and then only check the last 3 boxes on the bottom. Hit apply and ok,

Do a disk cleanup with Ccleaner available at http://www.ccleaner.com/download
and a registry cleaning also. this program wont destroy your registry like others.

Do a defrag with preferrably a free program like Auslogics Disk defrag which is way more advanced and qu8icker than the xp version. get it at

http://www.auslogics.com/disk-defrag

One other program to mention is Regseeker available at http://www.hoverdesk.net
but be sure you know what your deleting because it can be pretty tricky if your not familiar with the options.

After you do all of these you should restart your computer and be amazed at the speed you will have browsing through your folders and surfing the web... Good luck and post back your results.

Re: How do I make my computer faster ?

Go to Start.

Click run.

Type: msconfig

Go to the start up tab.

Now remember. You can mess up your computer in this area.

Uncheck the things that don't need to run. If unsure leave it alone. I uncheck msn messenger, itunes mobile helper, qttask, etc.

These things all try to run when you start your computer. Unchecking them tells them not to run. Speeds it sometimes.

Again, don't uncheck it if you don't know what it is.

Once you restart a box will pop up telling you that you did that, check not to tell you again.

There's other ways too. More memory, check for adware using one of several free programs, deleting temp files. Ashton made a post on that.
