I've noticed HITS does not show results for some profiles. (The quote, last login, etc turns up blank.) Do you think that's a random glitch in the HITS program? Or have the owners of those profiles done something to block HITS from accessing their info? If so, I'd like to do it to mine, should someone search my profile on there!
Or maybe I'm the only one who's seen this? Hmm. Thanks for any info!

Well, I don't know much about .html, but I'm trying to learn... about my greatest achievement thus far was creating a banner for the Blog section of my Profile a couple days ago. I managed to do it based on the dated information here: http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/cover.html#minitoc
Well, although that's supposed to be some pretty old stuff, it seems to work on MySpace... but, I digress; I suppose my remarks are headed in the wrong direction for this Topic. So, to become more subject-oriented, with all this discussion about HITS/SnakeEater, I found myself curious about what I could find out from the site (other than what's provided by the Scraping service). I can't say that I figured out much, if anything at all, but I am a little curious about some of the code viewable in the Page Source information.
Well, one thing I tend to do is hit the Find function on Firefox when I view the Page Source, and then I plug in some keywords that I am curious about. One of them is usually T-R-A-C-K, and... well, I found some stuff that made me raise an eyebrow. At the bottom of the page there's a lot of stuff like:
...c._trackEvent=function(g,o,k)......a._trackPageview=function(b)...
...a._createEventTracker=function(b)...
...a._setCampaignTrack=function(b){i.qa=b?1:0}...
..._gat._getTracker=function(d)...
~~~and the page concludes with the following line of code~~~
</script><script type="text/javascript">
var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("UA-12345-1");
pageTracker._initData();
pageTracker._trackPageview();
</script>
</div>
</div></body></html>
Well, like I implied with my remarks preceding these code excerpts, I cant tell you what it all means. I did notice that Analytics is tied to all of this, as the id="analytics" condition is established much earlier in the page. However, I also noticed some advertisement stuff sourced to
http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js-and sandwiched between the Syndication and Analytics code are referring links (or some kind of connection) to PayPal.
It looks like the code is an Uber-Intricate rendition of what's described in Google's Conversion University, for Analytics. There's a lot of information for optimizing Analytics' Acquisition, Onsite Behavior Analysis, Outcomes, and Videos, but, to narrow a little bit of that down, some of the HITS/SnakeEater code looks familiar to what's described on this site extension:
http://www.google.com/support/conversionuniversity/bin/answer.py?answer=77164
If that is the case, I think HITS/SnakeEater can track more than most GuG users would want them to. Does anybody have any input or have an idea what all this code allows HITS/SnakeEater to do, see, and record?
HITS is not tracking users. It onlymonitors user activity. Which means, which links people click on the HITS site. But not what INDIVIDUAL users do. It doesn't even track your IP. HITS is safe, and not something people need to be worried about using.
Just a quick question for the uninformed: What's the web address for HITS?... I've never used it or heard of it before. I've used SnakeEater at www.myspacescrape.com and it seems pretty good at getting the information (but if the user has a lot of photos and you try to "Grab the pics!" it can severely slow down your comp). Is HITS any better than SnakeEater? What are the differences between the two services?
HITS and myspacescrape are the same service. Just the owner changed the name to myspacescrape!
Thanks FairyGirl! That saved me some prolonged searching online that would have been pointless! Does anybody know of other Scraping services besides this one? It would pretty neat to compare what's out there!
Sure thing, Elite! Can't help you there though- myspacescrape is the only one I know, sorry!
hits is ok, but i prefer mixmap [dot] com
give that a whirl and let me know what you think,
The only stupid question is the one that remains unasked
~Niebr~
Mixmap? Isn't that just a tracker? HITS is a "scrape" program, right? I guess I don't understand what you're trying to say. I do actually have the Mixmap tracker, and luv it, yes! You are right. But I use HITS for viewing a page w/ trackers, in hopes of not getting tracked. I'm just wondering how "safe" HITS is for doing so.
Boy do I feel blonde again (and I'm not, haha!) Sorry for all the babbling..
HITS and MixMap arent even close to the same thing. You are completely correct MI40
So the rational part of my brain says I should remove the tracker on my page (or at least stop checking it) so my stalker stops driving me absolutely nuts! lol. I'm private and barely ever change anything, yet she hits my page many times a day. So in return, I of course view her page through HITS. She's driving me nuts, but I'm not quite ready to confront her about it. (She's a stranger to me.) Anyway, part of me is still paranoid that she maybe has identified me hitting HER page as well. Can anyone put my mind at ease about HITS? Is it 100% safe to use in order to view MySpace pages that have trackers? What if someone is using a newly-developed tracker that is not "blocked" through the HITS site? (I'm assuming HITS uses the same sort of blocking like ABP does, and needs to keep updating their list..or maybe not?) Anyway, how safe IS using HITS, really? Anyone know? Or care to give their opinion? Thank you so much!
