Well...and I thought media/drive compatibility issues had been worked out and were a thing of the past.  Apparently not.  Thanks for updating us.

Re: Help with cd burner

You're saying you can only burn 3-5 songs where you used to be able to fit more on a CD.  I'm assuming you are trying to make a music CD that you can play on a standard CD player.

Questions:
What exactly is stopping you from burning as many songs as you used to?
Does the software show you that your CD is full when you get to the 3-5 song limit or does it let you add the usual number of songs and then the burner just stops?
Then, does your shortened CD still play in a CD player?

If WMP's load bar gets full after you drag 3-5 songs into the burn list then it's software related.  Maybe in your settings.  But if your CD player just stops in mid-burn and you are making coasters, it's probably driver or hardware related.

So, what exactly happens?

Based on what your answers are to the above, do you think it's your burning software or is it driver/hardware?

If you think it's driver/hardware, delete the burner from device manager, restart your computer, let the burner reinstall, get an updated driver for that exact model CD burner from the mfg's website, and install the new driver.  If that doesn't work, I'd say your burner is shot.  The new burner that you buy should come with good burning software like NERO OEM.

Re: Help with cd burner

I'm making the assumption that this is an internal CD burner on an XP system.  Since this may be a driver/hardware issue, let's do it this way:  First find out the name/model# of the burner (right-click My Computer>Properties>Hardware). Open the tree under DVD/CD ROM devices, find your burner, right-click, and choose Properties then Details.  That should tell you enough about the unit to get the most recent driver exe from the manufacturer's website.  DL and execute the driver package.

Next uninstall the CD burner.  Go back into Device Manager to your CD Drive, right-click on it and choose Uninstall.  Reboot.  When your system reboots, Windows will redetect it as newly installed hardware and when asked, you will need to tell Windows to install automatically.  It will use the driver package you installed previously.

So... if this doesn't work, you now have an excuse to buy a new one.  If you choose to get an internal one again, uninstall your old one the same way I told you above.  Follow the mfg's included instructions on software install for your new burner.

If it were me, I would replace the internal one with the fastest DVD+-R burner you can find.  Be sure you know whether you need an IDE or a SATA type.  IDE is the wide ribbon connector cable, SATA is the cute little plug.

Re: Help with cd burner

CryOk so I tried a different burning thing,I tried jukebox plus and it started to burn the cd and then it told me that it "had to cancel the burn ,there may be a problem with your cd or hardware".....maybe its my cd burner itself and not the program??What would you suggest now if you dont mind me asking...again Thank you in advance...Danni711

Re: Help with cd burner

Maybe go pick up a new CD Burner... if you know how to install it, or know someone who knows how, it'd probably be a good bet... it's relatively easy... and if you choose to do this, make sure you get one from a store with a good return policy... ask that if you install it (meaning having to open the package lol) and it doesn't work, if you can return it for a refund of your money, with at most a restocking fee (not just an exchange in case you're still having the same problem with a different CD burner)...

Or buy an iPod... lol

maybe someone else here has a better suggestion...

Re: Help with cd burner

he's making CD's that can be read by any CD player (that can read CD-R/CD-RW's), not .mp3/.wma CD's...... but yea, try a different burning software first. if it still doesn't work, then we can start looking at hardware issues. One of the programs Anime would probably be a good bet. but I don't use those one's so getting them set up will probably be her job

Re: Help with cd burner

I was going to look in my settings and see if I could figure something out, but WMP locked up on me just trying to start up... stupid things never done that before...

I was going to suggest the same thing to you that Anime did, check that it isn't set to burn in WMA format instead of MP3, or double check that the files you are trying to burn are in MP3 format to start with. I know I had some other kind of files once that took up about 3 times the space.

Re: Help with cd burner

maybe you've got it set to burn in some other format?

Instead of burning through Windows Media Player, maybe you could try a different software? Something that your computer came with, or download something for free like CDBurnerXP or Ashampoo Burning Studio...
