Help please- MySpace background color is gray & I can't change it

Hi! I'm a n00b here, so I hope I'm posting this in the right forum. I need help with MySpace. Somehow something I did or MySpace did has overrided my background color. It's all gray, no matter if I have all cleared of code, have only a simple background color code in it or have a full-blown layout. The correct color will show up for a split second while the page loads, then it will change to gray. I don't know what to do to fix it.

I'm not exactly sure what caused it, but I have a suspicion. I found a div layout last week that I really liked. It's the first time I ever tried one that was different than a basic layout. When I couldn't figure out how to change a few simple aspects of it I replaced the code with one of my own simple regular layouts. Ever since then I've had my problem. At first I wasn't sure if it was me or MySpace. Now I'm pretty sure it has something to do with that Div Layout I tried using. If anyone has any advice or help I'd greatly appreciate. actually it's a bug with Firefox and css

BACKGROUNDS - the background color on your profile might've reverted to either gray or white. Do NOT change your HTML - this is a bug that we'll fix Smiling

Was this posted by Tom? Bc the same exact thing happened to me yesterday! I tried posting a question here but some how it didnt post.... anyway so is myspace gonna fix it bc my background use to be black and now its grayish white.... what should I do?

The bulletin was posted by myspace.

Who knows when they will fix it, it's not the only problem right now.

just add !important. unless you used the myspace profile editor....

background-color:000000 !important;

btw, you can use !important to fix it.

background-color:000000 !important;

I'm guessing you used the profile editor. 

OK I want to say the default background color is gray (at least it was when Idid it a moth or so ago).  Go to the"Profile Editor" then to the "Customize" tab, "Background" tab and then to "Background Color".  You will then get a box with the background colors and I'm willing to bet it's on gray.  Change the background color to clear so that your background can show thru.

You should use LayoutNerd.com It's a clik'n'drag profile editor. Very user friendly. Best one out there.

Friends don't let friends use the myspace profile editor.

Thank you so very much! You were correct- I tried using the profile editor for the first time last week too. (I forgot all about that.) My friend said she used it to make simple small changes (like font colors & stuff), so I tried it. I wasn't impressed with it, especially since it wouldn't work in Firefox and I was forced to use IE for it, so I went back to adjusting the color in the code myself.

I can't believe the solution was so simple. I feel slightly foolish now after getting so frustrated with it. I had to simply clear all for it to work (changing the background to clear didn't take for some reason). Now I know to stay far away from the Profile Editor. I guess I should of realized that when it didn't work in Firefox. Thanks again!

 Oh don't worry It took me about 2 hours to figure it out - plus lots of cursing and at one point ready to chuck my computer of the window.  Thank goodness I didn't do it on my real profile but my fake.  It wasn't just the backgorund that gave me a fit but it screwed will all of my codes.  I think all of us who used it will agree first and last time we ever use a editor put out by myspace.

Oh and FYI just wait now you'll get the PM's pouring in saying "excuse me, you don't know me but can you tell me how you did that to your private profile, I really need to know".  I think for weeks I was averaging 15 a day, now I only get about 5 a day...ugh.

I'm glad to find out it wasn't just me that had a hard time. I had the same reaction to- I was contemplating banging my head on the keyboard and then later throwing the whole thing out the window. I had a question for you if you don't mind- did you mean you have a fake myspace profile set up just to "practice" on? I guess that's a good idea- then I wouldn't have screwed up my real one.

And thanks for the heads up- I'll be prepared for a flood of PM's if they come. I didn't even get as far as realizing there was PM's here. I better go snooping to get more stuff figured out around here. (I can see it now- dh will be complaining b/c I found yet another site to spend way too much time on.) LOL

Well I do use my fake to "practice" on but I'll admit I spy with it. Plus it's fun to screw around with it too. My fake is soooooooo not me in life (it's really good), hehe.

As for the PM's (I get them on myspace) well I have a standard answer saved to file that they get when they ask me how I did it:

I used the new myspace profile editor but it sucked! It's not user friendly at all and it screws up your codes. It looks good but not worth all of the hours of being pissed off about it and fixing it (and I'm really good at codes too).

Did you use the MySpace profile editor?  It's caused problems in the past see this thread here.

Yes- I used the Profile Editor and regret it with all the frustration it has caused me. Thanks for showing me the problems it's caused others. I have learned not to use it anymore. Thanks for lmk!
