Was it an invite for them to join myspace? or to join the IM program? Or a friend request?
Here is my opinion...Everyone of these will send that myspace user an email to their email account with your display name on it. (and possibly a link to your profile, but I'm not sure if it does have a link to your profile.)
If you don't want them to see your display name, like especially if it is a unique name--then you may want to consider deleting your myspace profile--it could possibly be good enough to change your display name so it won't match what is in their email account msg.
Also, if it was a friend request, go into your sent friend requests and cancel the friend request.
