I thought I would pass on a email I got - ACK! It showed my house!
Google has implemented a new feature which enables you to type a telephone
number into the search bar and hit enter, and you will be given the
person's name and address. If you then hit MapQuest, you will get a map to
the person's house. Everyone should be aware of this! It's a nationwide
reverse telephone book.
If a child gives out his/her phone number, someone can now look it up to
find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious and alarming.
Note that you can have your phone number removed or blocked. I tried my
number and it came up along with the map and directions straight to our
house. I did fill out the removal form for myself, and encourage all of you
to do the same.
In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to Google at
www.google.com, type your phone number in the search bar (e.g.
555-555-1212) and press enter. If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging
your private information, simply click on your telephone number, click on the "open" and then
click on the Removal Form. Removal takes 48-hours.
remember that if the phone number is listed in your name and then listed again in your spouses name you have to remove it on both names

"When I turn around you stay frozen to the spot!"
Sleuth, yeah just type in you number (I use the hyphens) and hit enter. If nothing came up, consider yourself lucky!
"When I turn around you stay frozen to the spot!"

~You must be the change you wish to see in the world~
That is pretty scary. I got a bullentin a while ago and did the goggle search but I didn't come up with anything so I thought it was something stupid just going around. But how wrong was I. Thanks Stevie almost all those sites had my number listed. I removed them all.
Scary huh? I removed my listing from Google a while back. Here's an article that mentions a few other sites' databases you guys may want to look at to possibly remove your entries. I had several at Intelius - at least one for every place I ever lived.

I already had mine removed from google and anywho.com. I then removed it from whitepages.com.
I am in the process of removing it from yahoo, I've located my number and I see the link to remove the listing--but I can't seem to navigate to the right place.
Also, I am in the process of removing it from switchboard--I've located my number but also can't navigate to the right place to remove it.
So, any ideas for yahoo and switchboard of how to remove after finding the listing?
How would you remove it from whitepages? and anywho.com?
Oh - thanks for the article. It is scary - my phone number is not unlisted but I don't want it all over the web - yikes! Ever try zabasearch according to them just about all of my local relatives have lived at my house (not).
