Computer Wont Boot!!! Gateway 2000 Running Windows Xp New OS!

Computer Wont Boot!!! Gateway 2000 Running Windows Xp New OS!

Hey I have a old Gateway 2000 has worked for years, but the Cd-Rom Drive would not work on that PC. I took the Hard Drive out of that computer and put it into a new "AOL Optimized" computer and then reformatted the "Hard-Drive" and Installed a new "Windows XP" Genuine Copy Of Microsoft Windows XP Professional on it and it Installed fine on that computer so then when I took that "Hard-Drive" and put it the Gateway 2000 It Freezes at the "SafeMode" Choice menu. After it counts down to 0 or if i click on a choice the PC will not Respond and everything is locked!

Use the XP Cd and do a Windows recovery, Just as if you were reinstalling windows as usual except use the recovery option. First off I would run a check disk with the /F or /R switch so you can make sure the install goes smoothly for example assuming C: is the drive letter your going to be working with
CHKDSK C: /F or CHKDSK C: /R do this through the "repair" option on the xp CD this is different from the Recovery option that you will use for the next step. You will need the Serial for XP to repair the OS because it will ask you for one during the recovery process "so be ready". it should work fine once your done but make sure you do a recovery on top of the partition you had XP installed on prior. you will have to put all the drivers necessary for the new motherboard and hardware afterwards. good Luck!!

Welcome to a cold reality - potspace.

XP has made it so that when you install the OS from one computer - the install builds upon the motherboard in the computer that you're installing from.

Thus, making it pretty much impossible to throw the hard drive into another computer, unless it shares a similar Mobo.

You can do some research on Google about BartPE...which are Windows OS's created on a cd. That might help.

One more note. I see you've expanded your advertising...I would say that's good enough, if not a bit overboard...

Basically, if the next post began to emanate weird smells out of my computer, well...
