I tracked a non friend on my private profile

I tracked a non friend on my private profile

There must be a private profile access code out there somewhere because I have a private profile and I tracked a non friend. I have an IP tracker inside my myspace profile that tracks my friend hits and I have an IP tracker in my headline that tracks everyone who attempts to access my site, friends and non friends. Anyway, between the 2 trackers I clicked into this guy's myspace profile and he's not my friend and I don't know who he is.

I wish I knew how he did it. I'm tempted to message him and ask.

Has anyone else experienced a non friend accessing there private profile?

Re: I tracked a non friend on my private profile

The person I tracked was supposedly from Reston, VA too. Thanks for the AOL info, I think that explains it.

I think a non-friend just viewed my private page!?

I recently added 2 trackers to my private page. One is in the headline and the other is at the top of my about me section. The one in my headline is from createblog and a girl I don't know was tracked. She must also have a createblog account because her myspace name and pic were already identified. No problem there because it was the headline tracker, right? So now I just got an anonymous hit on my other tracker which is on my private page. The IP address was the exact same as the strange girl. I thought only my friends would be tracked by this tracker. So is she viewing my private page somehow?????

Sorry, I just saw/read the thread below on the same topic!

Re: I tracked a non friend on my private profile

A recent post reminded me of this...If your page is still cached in google--I have heard that people can get tracked by viewing the cached page even though your profile is now private. You would have to test it to be sure.

There is a GuG contest going on right now, so please cast a vote for me by making a comment in my thread called, "Like sands in the hour glass..so are the Days of our Lives."

I really appreciate it alot !

Re: I tracked a non friend on my private profile

First of all, keep in mind that no tracker is going to be 100% accurate 100% of the time.

Secondly, back when I used a tracker, I replaced the my user ID in the tracker code with that of another profile so that those who had the same tracker wouldn't pick up my hits - someone else would show up in their log. It still tracked my visitors since that's the profile where the code was, so it may just be that one of your friends discovered this and did it.

And unless you manually entered every friend's IP to associate with their profile and knew that every one you did was their unique IP (the ONLY way to be 100% sure is if all your friends access myspace only from one location with a static IP - it's not just AOL, LOTS of ISPs do the dynamic route, it's next to impossible to associate everyone perfectly), a tracker only has the IP to go by. So yes, like an internet cafe, a school, or business can throw it off. If you have a "friend" who accessed your profile from a college or business, the tracker itself could have associated that IP addy with that person *and* thousands of others who have ever used that method to access the internet. The tracker might associate any random user with that particular IP.

Or if a friend of yours accessed your profile using a proxy, same thing. The tracker could have associated the proxy's IP with every myspace profile that has logged into myspace using that proxy. So although it was your friend who viewed your profile, your tracker randomly assigned the hit to another user who used the same proxy at some point.

I also recently used a hotel computer to log into myspace. I'm sure others have used the same machine as well. If one of my friends with a private profile picked up that hit - it's not going to associate with my profile. Depending on the hotel's ISP, it could show the city or nothing at all on a tracker. Or if at some point, someone told trackspace that IP was associated with one specific profile, that's who trackspace would show in their log, no matter who it really is at any given time.

Just keep in mind that *one* weird hit is nothing to worry about - no tracker is 100% accurate and there could be dozens of reasons why some stranger suddenly pops in there. The last thing I would assume in this case is that it was someone who accessed your profile using an exploit.

Re: I tracked a non friend on my private profile

I was hoping that it was intentional.  Love to have that code.

Same thing happened to me, but the way I found out was by using the code posted here, the one that allows you to view who has viewed your profile. Note - the code is not a tracker code, it allows you to track who is checking you out WITHOUT using a tracker. Do a search here and you will find it. But I came back to GuG with the same question you had, and someone here suggested the "suspect" (for lack of a better description) may have had access to the same code. In other words, possibly a GuG member..... Just a thought. There are alot of peeps on myspace. And alot of peeps who want access to private profiles......

Re: I tracked a non friend on my private profile

I use Trackspace.  I have 2 friends that work for the same branch of the US Post Office.  Someone prior to me had ID'd one of their profiles in Trackspace.  No matter which one hits, it always ID's the one guy, never the other.  Same thing with a married couple on my friends list, since I tagged it as her, even when he visits, Trackspace only tells me it's her.

Another possibility is that they are an AOL user, or something similar, comes up with Herndon, VA or Reston, VA on the tracker, but the user is almost always someone completely random, and inaccurate.

"How do you know I'm mad?" asked Alice.
"You must be", said the cat, "Or you wouldn't have come here"

Re: I tracked a non friend on my private profile

The AOL thing - I didn't know that! I always have about 5 - 10 Herndon and Reston, VA hits a day. Does this mean ANY AOL user, ANYWHERE shows up this way?

Re: I tracked a non friend on my private profile

Reston is aol. I think Herndon is road runner.

Re: I tracked a non friend on my private profile

The way that IP was tagged may be the case here.  I'm slowly starting to grasp the concept.

As far as the AOL stuff, it doesn't really come into play here.  Thanks for your reply!Smile

Re: I tracked a non friend on my private profile

maybe someone was just browsing and saw your profile that way. just a random hit?

Re: I tracked a non friend on my private profile

It may have been random, but they actually were able to get inside my profile and view it.  I get random hits all the time which are tracked by my headline tracker, but they don't access the private profile.  I'm still trying to figure this one out......trying to wrap my brain around the IP idea.

Re: I tracked a non friend on my private profile

Sounds like it's a dynamic IP address. Like devil mentioned, usually trackspace is pretty smart on that, and can decipher them, but I've had some that have not. Did you try running the ip through maxmind. That can at least tell you what ISP it is, then you can maybe do some research as to whether they use static or dynamic IP's. Let me know if you'd like some help.

FYI: static ip = never changes, each computer has the same IP all the time (well unless they use a proxy, but that's another story)

dynamic ip = a isp has a "pool" of ip addresses, and it grabs one everytime you sign on.

Re: I tracked a non friend on my private profile

Any posibility its someone you have as a friend using someone else's computer, and maybe therefore their IP? Or something like an internet cafe?

Re: I tracked a non friend on my private profile

You might have something there.  I'll go check that out and let you know.  Thanks.

Re: I tracked a non friend on my private profile

I mentioned it cause a similar thing has been happening when my sister hits my profile. PT keeps thinking its other profiles, but I know its her. When TrackSpace is working correctly, (I think) it is usually smart enough to match up hits like this.

Re: I tracked a non friend on my private profile

I'm interested in hearing more about this.  Is there somewhere we could "talk?"

Re: I tracked a non friend on my private profile

There's not really all that much else to it, but send me an email using the contact form in my user profile. Or send me a MySpace message if you want. Either way.
