I recently started having problems with my Memorex DVD+/-DLRWl1F16 burner I bought 2 years ago. What it's doing is when I burn a song, it starts out ok, but about a minute into a song, it starts to sound scratchy & by about 3 minutes, it's nothing but white noise. Then the next track starts, it's ok. It's like the drive is not "slowing down" as the laser head moves outward on the track when burning. Playback is okay with cd's & dvd's, it's only when burning. I have reinstalled the software, updated the drivers, adjusted settings, bought another brand of cd's, updated burning programs & even took the drive apart to clean out any contaminants. I have gone round & round with this, but cannot find a proper diagnosis. I don't want to condemm the drive & spend $85 for a new one to find out that it's actually a problem with the PC hardware or other software. Has anyone else had this problem? Or does anyone know how to reconfigure settings or software to eliminate this problem? thanks.
Problem with Memorex CD/DVD burner
it has done it on every disc iv'e burned after it started screwing up. it reads store bought, previously burned cd's & dvds fine, it just won't burn correctly. It seems like it's not slowing down the discs rpm as the song or movie track records, thus is why songs sound good at first but gradually become scratchy sounding as they progress, but as soon as a new track starts, it adjusts to where it should be, & will do this with every track. Yeah, I think your right. It probably is the drive because they are a seperate system & do their own "thinking" after recieving simple commands from the pc. I'll probably just get a new burner because I really don't have any use for a double layer. It's sole purpose is to just burn dvd's & cds. Any large data files I usually backup onto my external. Thanks.
I have tried diffrent rates, dma is on, I downloaded new firmware & drivers from Memorex. Like Iv'e said, Iv'e changed about every setting that can be changed, but with no results. I'm starting to think there might be a glitche in the drive circuitry because it started doing it when I was right in the middle of burning some cds. the first one was good, but the other three were bad. It worked perfect before. Unfortunantly, the warranty's out now. lol
