Firewalls/antivirus recs?

My brother generally tends to do most of my computer stuff for me, but he's in a snit and won't come over before the weekend, so. I need good, free firewall/antivirus software. I currently have AVG, which I hate. I used to have, erm... NOD32? Is that right?

Anyway, I want something decent and free, and there is so much out there I would love some personal recs - I trust you guys! Thanks :)

i use NOD32 on my old Windoz laptop.. but i dont think it's free..
it's good and lightweight..

of course on my iMac i dont have to worry about silly things like antivirus..

Mm, I think I will have to re-buy it. I'm just short on cash until my flatmate gets her bank account activated and pays me her rent, so I need something free until then.

 

I did try using a Mac! Uni labs always have them, but six years later, I *still* cannot get the hang of them. Windows for me!

I'm with you I use NOD32 and love it! NO it's not free but if you have ever been hit with a Virus, trojan or worm you will see it is worth every dime.  I think you get what you pay for and then some.

For what it is worth I was told FREE wise the best one out there is AVG but I have never used it.

when i had a pc, i often referred to pcmagazine.com for their reviews and free downloads.

AE provided a great recommendation with Avast.
