I've been using it forever, but I'm wondering if it's necessary with some of the more recent Firefox upgrades.  I've never had a problem with it before, but since last night, it's left me slower than the speed of dial-up whenever it's enabled.  It was taking somewhere around 12 seconds to switch between tabs with it on, as soon as I disabled it, back to normal.  Can I just uninstall it?

Re: FireFox add-on CookieSafe 2.0.6

I'm bumping this, since it annoyed the crap out of me this morning .  Normally, when I close my browser, it logs me out of everything as soon as I shut it down, and I'd have to log back into each and every one when I open the browser back up.  Since this happened, I'm left logged in to a lot of sites unless I actually click "log out".  I don't like that, I'd prefer that everything start with a fresh session each time I open my browser.

Lady, are you talking about the Cookie add-on or the NoScript program?

Right now, I'm not using either.  I disabled the cookie add-on until I can figure out how to make it now slow me down so much, and I've never used no-script.

Re: FireFox add-on CookieSafe 2.0.6

Hmmm, are you sure its your cookie add-on leaving you logged in? I have something on my Firefox that does the same thing, but I don't have the cookie add-on. I didn't think too much of it and just try to make sure I log out of my accounts before I close my browser.

I was a little surprised to find myself still logged into GUG when I opened my browser tonight, actually. I must have missed this one the other night when I closed down shop. LOL

Here's my extension list in case you want to do some comparisons:

Adblock Plus
Download Status Bar
Flashblock
Greasemonkey
NoScript
Refspoof
Skype Extension
Toolbar Buttons
Toolbar MS
Web Mail Notifier
Who Is This Person?

Not too mention a couple dozen various scripts for Greasemonkey.

Re: FireFox add-on CookieSafe 2.0.6

The only ones in common we're using is AdBlock Plus and Toolbar Buttons.   So far, GuG and my junk email are the only ones I've noticed myself still logged into after closing and re-opening Firefox, and there are plenty of sites that I'm logged out of.  However, this only started over the past few days, since I disabled CookieSafe, so, Thursday or Friday, time being a fuzzy concept for me.

Re: FireFox add-on CookieSafe 2.0.6

Hey Lady Cerridwen,

I ran over to the Firefox Add-on site and the reviewers of that particular add-on had some helpful suggestions.

"In windows configurations, it seems the actual problem comes from the \"Use Strict Rules When Testing Exceptions\" setting.\r\n\r\nWhen this option is unchecked, Firefox behaves without noticeable depreciation of speed.\r\n\r\nGo to:\r\n\r\nTools>Add-ons>CookieSafe>Options>Behavior>Exceptions> and now UNCHECK \"Use Strict Rules When Testing Exceptions\"."

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2497

The other reviewers get even more detailed with some problems and potential fixes. Hope this helps!

Jessie

Re: FireFox add-on CookieSafe 2.0.6

Yes and no, thanks, lol.  It's not the cookie safe settings, those are fine, but someone else on the site had posted this:

  • This is a really good extension but when I recently immune (adding blacklist for Firefox cookie list) using Spybot - Search & Destroy. it slows down the Firefox very much (very slow to click a tab , load a tab and so on)

by khng khng on March 10, 2008 (rated 2)

And the slowness did start right after I did a huge update to SpyBot.  After rebooting from the update, I noticed a new icon in my systray, something about 62124 processes being blacklisted.  Could that be the problem?

The other thing is, if I don't really need the add-on, I can ditch it.  Is it necessary?

Re: FireFox add-on CookieSafe 2.0.6

I don't know if ya need the add-on or no. I personally use NoScript with Firefox and am comfortable with that. It sounds similar to the Cookie program but it blocks Scripts and Flash unless I okay it.

There is a Lite version of the add-on you have and from what I've read, it may be more compatible with your SpyBot program.

Here's the support page where it was being discussed:

Here's the add on (CS Lite):

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5207

Hmmm, I think I may snag that one myself. LOL

Have a good one!

Re: FireFox add-on CookieSafe 2.0.6

Thanks again for your help Smile  I don't know a lot about "no-scrip", I liked Cookie Safe because it was pretty much hands-off, it just did what I told it to do in the background without me having to answer a ton of prompts like the first cooking handline add-on I had tried (can't remember the name).  Does anyone have experience with CS light?   I'm reading the reviews, but "I love this extension" is a bit on the vague side for me, anyone have any input?
