Hey fellow GuG's, I need to send a very important email to someone here in a little bit.

But before I can--I need to know how I can receive a notification of when they open up the email? The person I need to send the email to uses Yahoo.

I planned on using my hotmail account to send the email, but I am willing to use any email program necessary so that I can get the notification that they read the email.

Please let me know of a way. I need to send the email as soon as I can. Thanks in advance Smiling

Re: Another way 2 use Email receipt notification

I had a brainstorm today Smiling Another way to know if your yahoo, hotmail, etc. email's password has been obtained by a malicious person is--use a email receipt notification.

In the process, use one of your "dummy" email accounts to send a "fake" email to the email address that you think may have had "peeps" gain entry into. Use the email receipt notification (choose the invisible one) while sending that email to your own email addy.

When the nosy person reads your email, you will know the time it was read and the ip address(if available) of that nosy person, along with other info that you can choose how you wish to use.

When typing the email, realize that the nosy person is more likely to read something interesting. So, make it an email that someone can't resist to open.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to think of this. However, I do find it to be a great tool for even other ways too, besides just your yahoo/hotmail etc. accounts.  I bet it is possible to use this type of method in relation to myspace in several ways perhaps.

===================

UPDATE: The program that was recommended to me by jaded (see below) gives you a free trial for 2 weeks. I was under the assumption that if your reader opens the email after the 2 week free trial--that you would never know unless you became a paying member.

Well...i checked my email and saw that she re-read my email again last week Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile

(this was way over the 2 week trial.) So, some handy dandy info to pass along. The notification for when they re-read your email works long after the 2 week trial. Shh, don't tell anyone Cool

Hi Pat,

What program did you use? I clicked on the link provided by Jaded and it featured several services. Any update to which service is better? Thank you!

I used readnotify...and even though my free trial was over a long time ago....I still get notified everytime that particular email is re-opened, forwarded, etc.

It tells me their IP address, browser info, time/date email was re-opened, along with what action was performed (re-open, forward).

I've only used read-notify so far (with invisible option selected--and you want to go through and set the options how you want them to be set). Anyways, readnotify satisfied exactly what I needed.

Re: Email receipt notification

Pat...it worked for you?  This would have been quite helpful this time last year with a client who would seemingly 'not' get my email.

I wonder if the recipient knows that it is a 'return receipt email'.

I thought that years back when I used Outlook that they had the return receipt feature, but I believe the recipient had the choice of declining the 'send receipt', but not sure.  I haven't used Outlook in a very long time.

Re: Email receipt notification

Yes, it worked perfectly. I tested it first by sending myself an email to one of my "dummy email addresses" and there was no hint that the email receipt notification was in effect. (there is an option to have the email receipt hidden, and an option to have it show--of course I chose the hidden option.)

The program gives you a free 2 week trial (offering most of the features). A cool feature is that it notifies you if the person reads the email again, or if they forward the email.

p.s. it is perfect to "prove" that someone did get your email when they claim they didn't. (although there are those few coincendences when someone may open an email but not read it--and you get the email receipt showing they opened the email--but all along they may have never read it).

Re: Email receipt notification

Lynn, some of them do make the reader aware, others do not. I'm pretty sure you could use any ip tracker that has a hidden image and put that in the mail too, it would open when they viewed it, and voila, you would know. BUt i'm not 100% on that, might wanna try it on yourself first

Re: Email receipt notification

 Thank you.

One of the things I haven't done is track IP's of late.

Re: Email receipt notification

you wouldn't need to track the ip, but if the image was viewed, then it would be tracked, and you would know that the email was opened. Or am i wrong?

Re: Email receipt notification

It would work as long as the email program displays images. Gmail hides them by default and viewing the pictures is optional. Same for yahoo i think. That way an ip tracker would only work if the recipient also clicked the "view pictures" button.
