Do I have a stalker or what?

Do I have a stalker or what?

I have trackspace and the same ip address keeps coming up from Reston,VA...However the picture/profile keeps changing And sometimes I get IP addresses and no location which to me seems as though they are viewing my profile through a proxy.....I asked one of the girls whom profile came up from Reston (however she was from Utah) why she keeps viewing my profile she didnt respond and turned her profile private and the following week the same ip address with a different profile continues to stalk my profile....What is up? Insight please! =)

Here are a few thoughts also. On Trackspace you can go to your account setting which is located on the top right hand side of your screen, and make your trackspace account private. Otherwise other users of that service can look at your profile and your account. After I set mine to private I noticed a dropoff in the amount of people that were complete strangers that were coming to my page. Folks just seem to be naturally curious.

It would take me too long to explain why ip adresses show up in other locations than where they are really located....lets just say its kind of like cell phone towers....its where the service is coming from at that given moment....anyway....the very best ip search site i use now is
ip-adress.com....spelled exactly like that....its the greatest..it limits you to 20 lookups per day, but really...usually no one needs that many a day. It gives the city, the internet provider, and a detailed map.

And my thoughts on the reston thing is those are users of trackspace, or previous users of trackspace. Most of my friends who have trackspace show up as reston.

Hope this helps you a little!!

Re: Do I have a stalker or what?

There is a post somewhere on GuG about blocking certain ip addresses. I looked, but I couldn't find it and I think it involves profiletracker but I can't remember.

Anyways, my point is that if you block her ip address then she will most likely find another computer to use instead--and you may not recognize the new ip address she has. It may be more beneficial to you to not block her so that you can "keep an eye" on her and know how many times she views your profile.

Another thing to consider is that if you have a tracker in your headline box, then some hits are from people who are merely running across your headline while using myspace-search-find-a-friend. (the page that shows you when someone updates their profile) She may be actually repeatedly viewing when someone else updates their profile---and you just happen to be on the same search page as them.

One more thing, maybe there is someone on your friend list that she is "stalking" and she comes to your profile to see their comments, or she wants to see other things that may relate to them.

My screename is unique and when you search for it I'm the only one that comes up.....My location is set to all of USA....And the final kicker is my page is private and my friendlist is hidden.......

Re: Do I have a stalker or what?

pink explained it perfectly ;)  i think many IP's show up as Reston & Herndon virginia, bc that is road runner's corporate home base. Everyone who comes up on my trackers that use  road runner, show herndon virginia or reston.  Even my own ip address shows that i am located in herndon, virginia, when in fact, im in florida.

Re: Do I have a stalker or what?

Oh, this is good.  I always wondered why!

Re: Do I have a stalker or what?

Well here are a few insights to your concerns:

1.  Same IP address could mean that people are using the same computer, maybe at a college, school or work

2.  Just because Trackspace identifies them, don't necessarily take that to be the correct information.  The users of trackspace identify the profiles on there, so you never know if someone has been identified and then they change it someone else's profile.  I could go on my stats page for trackspace and put anyone's friend Id on a unidentifiable person and low and behold it really belong to someone else...make sense?

3.  Users of Aol, Verizon...etc etc etc, will most notably show up being from the same place.  I've read and read about this in other GuG threads, try by searching it on GuG.  I'm sure someone else will be able to explain this better.  I'll try though...let's say someone from Utah is using Verizon, because the main branch is in Reston it'll show up as locating her in Reston...just an example here!!!

Hope that this helps a little bit...wait for more responses on this, they'll come!!!

Re: Do I have a stalker or what?

Becareful with TraskSpace.  Alot of profiles are shown as Reston.  Not sure why. But when I compare them to my other tracker (so I can ID then), it shows their real location.  So, I have noticed IP location has been wrong with trackspace.
