SO this is the new movie by George A. Romero the king of zombie movies. This movie should be gold. Should be. It sucked. Straight up sucked. I wouldn't tell anyone to see this movie. I watched it with my wife and best friend. All three of us love horror movies and in particular zombie movies. All three of us felt the same way about the movie. The dialogue was horrible almost as bad as the acting. The zombies were a fleeting thought in the movie. They rarely mad appearances and when they did it was only for a minute or two. Truly disappointing. I decided to buy it instead of renting it. I truly regret that and will sell it to a record store first chance I get.

Bottom line: two thumbs down. You couldn't give me this movie.

Re: Diary of The Dead

Just a little random note/thought, but has anyone notice that as of lately, scary movies just arent what they use to be no more?

I remember when i was younger movies use to have that eerie creepy JUMPING action of thrill shoot through my body, but now its just blood and guts? Not really thought out.

Just my two cents.

Thanks for the heads up.

i'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that it is because you were "little." and as children, everything is scary until we learn to separate what is real and what is not. but, there are movies that scared the hell out of me as a teen that still do! *every Jason flick!*

Re: Diary of The Dead

Silly as this sounds however I don't think this movie was really meant to be 'scary'. I found it more to be a lesson in morality social commentary  more than anything.

*edit*

I realize we are all entitled to our own opinion

“Diary” presents a world of post-9/11, post-Iraq-invasion paranoia and distrust of the “official story.” (And it amazed the hell out of me that in the movie they had internet access. You would think that the gov't would have stopped that considering the fact that they blocked cell phones usage on 9/11 but anyhoo.)

The zombies you can see. You can run them over in your Winnebago, pour acid over their heads, cut their heads in half with a sword or scythe or take them down with a shot to the head. But the larger monster is uncertainty: What is happening? Why? And where will it strike next?

In the movie one of the character remarks that not knowing the truth started the panic. This is what really puts the “terror” in “terrorism,” not the flesh-ripping zombies right there in front of you — although seeing them come into the frame made me jump a bit.

I think it was the character "Debra" who commented /reflected on a future of endless war, in which every person who is killed returns from the dead to kill someone else ... she’s talking about the cycles of vengeance and violence in places like Iraq and Afghanistan — blow-back, not just a zombie bite.

This movie wasn't meant to be a crappy horror flick like many people are whining about. It was meant to get you to think.

If love is the answer can someone please rephrase the question for me...

This was a film critique not whining. I love zombie movies and horror movies. I also love political movies. The two do not mix. No where have I read that George Romero intended this movie as a political metaphor. If he did say that I have never read it. I think Ebert suggested it but I don't know if that was merely his take on the movie. Isn't your fifth line a quote from Roger Ebert? The closest I saw to what you said is Romero made comments about new media venues like the internet where everyone can become news anchors anywhere. Regardless of what he intended the underlying theme to be it was advertised as a zombie movie and he did not deliver a good zombie movie. Pure and simple. This critique was a warning to people hoping for zombies.

Ok, I will give it up for the zombie fishbowl. That was pretty good.

Re: Diary of The Dead

Thanks for the warning. I'll heed it. I'm not much a fan of horror stuff anymore, but I used to be. Seems they are relying too much on effects and not enough on content. Watching the Saw movies made me feel bad - and those were half decent stories.

Recent ones... I liked The Ring. I liked Blair Witch(I) because it was different. I like it when someone comes out with unique, well-done ghost stories.

Speaking of Romero, one of the first movie dates I took my future wife was at a drive-in in Owensboro and they were playing Dawn of the Dead. Late 70's? You know... the one where they are trapped in the shopping mall. It was good teenage drive-in fun!

Re: Diary of The Dead

The Ring and Blair Witch were both great films. Dawn of the Dead is classic and hard to beat. There are some good modern horror movies. I never cared much for Saw for some reason. Now The Twenty Eight Days Later franchise is unfreakinbelievable. When I have a few extra minutes I'll post up on a good movie I saw this past weekend. It's funny how the one I hated was reviewed first. I just couldn't wait to get it off my chest in case any one was considering seeing Diary of The Dead.
