Dexter rocks. It's the first time since I can remember that we see a show from the perspective of the bad guy.

It funny, entertaining, smart, it has great dialogues, good music and a great cast (except for the chick that plays Dexter's sister).

Another smaller thing that got me hooked on this show from the start was that it shows perfectly how damaged normal people can be and you get the feeling that the psycopath is the only one there whose life isn't in shambles.

Any other Dexter fans out there? Eye-wink

i just happened to get to watch this tonight (both my kids sleeping at the same time-wow!) and dig it. hope i can catch the next one soon...thank god for dvrs!

So i know im totally late to the party- but I started watching Dexter this weekend. Im halfway through Season 1 and I am enjoying it immensely! I love how detatched and unemotional he is- and im a little bit worried about the comments below where people are saying his attitude changes in season 2. For me personally, its that cold, emotionless behavior that makes me love the show.

I was out of town recently and saw a billboard with Dexter and a baby...having no idea what the show was my coworker piped up that she loved that show and I had to watch it....like I need another show to fill up my Tivo that I never get a chance to watch...I barely caught up on Heroes between plane rides this last week!!!

But she did say she was addicted to Dexter so I'll add it....

We just finished season 1 last week and are on season 2. I didn't like it at first but it is growning on me, my husband liked it from the first episode. You can stream season 1 and 2 on netflix.

Yeah, a lot of things in season 2 seem to contradict what was said in season 1, but oh well.

I liked the seasons best to least in sequential order I think... hopefully this 4th one changes that trend. Still a great show. I got tired of Dexter's girlfriend (now wife?) and a couple other plot threads seemed to get old fast.

I like Rita (Dexter's now wife)...she's got issues but she's one of the only people he has real feelings for...I like that side of him cause it makes his character even more complex. I think it's LaGuerta that gets on my nerves more and more each season...

Oh I and can't waittttt till next week for the season premiere!

His sister has gotten on my nerves from the first episode. I like Rita at the moment. My brother also said the show gets worst with each season. I'll still check out season 3.

Really? I mean the show's "tone" def changes every season but I don't think it's exactly worse...just different. It starts to delve more into Dexter's more "emotional" side...not that he's one for emotions...maybe that's it...I dunno...I still <3 it but am curious as to what a baby will do to this season.

Haha, i was gonna make a topic about this. Great show, very entertaining. It's an interesting moral dilemma, the character is designed to make you sympathize with him yet he's a cold-blooded killer. In the first season he would have hilarious quotes like "if i had any feelings i guess i'd be happy now" or something to that extent. In the second season he has become more human and he seems to be exhibiting real feelings. Which is what you like to see as a viewer but it makes the killing seem more unnatural to me. The story line in the last episodes was all over the place which isn't necessarily a good thing in my opinion but i'm very interested to see where they take it from here. At least if the writers can get a good deal out of the strike and get back to work. It's a different discussion but it's ridiculous how little some of them make from very successful shows.

I LOVE this show. I dont watch much tv, but this is one I HAVE to watch. I got sucked in one night when I couldnt sleep. I caught an episode from season two and decided to add season one to my netflix. I finished season one within 2 days and continued to catch up on season two on demand. I love how I ended up rooting for the "bad guy". I HATE Lila. Very happy she is gone! I cant wait for season three. I'm very curious to see where they are going to take this show.

I thought Lila was right about them being soulmates. I'm probably the only Dexter fan who didn't want her killed. It seems like each season has to end with Dexter offing the one person who accepts him and loves him as he really is. Also, Rita's character gets on my nerves.

I tend to agree with you. Although Lila was a righteous witch that got what she deserved... in a way she was good for Dexter. And hey, she was practically naked in every episode, she's got my vote for that! Ha ha...

Lila's fatal mistake was attempting to get revenge on dexter instead of just getting the hell outta there when she realized he was planning to kill her. that was just stupid. I think I actually yelled at the screen "just GO! leave! now!"

I think it was precisely the witch part and the insanity that made her perfect for dexter... no normal woman could ever truly connect with and love him, only another psychopath (like his brother) could. rita doesn't even know him. maybe he likes it that way.

As I've posted before, this is one of the best shows on TV.

I don't know that I would agree that Dexter is a "bad guy", given his sense of honor in the things that he does. But you already know that if you are a fan of the show. Exploring his mentality is one of the things that makes the show great.

You don't like his sister? I find her funny, but it could be the character more than the actress I like. My father-in-law and I had this conversation and he can't stand her either.

I love how this show is like a justification for one's "darker side". And I've got a lot of that to go around...

Well, I think he is a "bad guy" because, no matter what he still is a killer. And a ruthless one at that. It's not like he poisons them, he kills them in a very cruel manner. His only redemptive quality is that he goes after the villains, instead of choosing random people. But I find his character great and I think he is evolving into someone less "evil" - I hate to use this word to characterise people - with his relationship with his girlfriend.

The reason why I don't like his sister is not so much her character, I just think the actress does a really bad job, she's amateurish and that stands out in a very good cast.

If you like the whole relationship with his gf, you will be in a for a ride watching season 2. Also he does a good job pulling apart his own "code of honor" and why he does what he does. And if he could change, would he even want to?

I read somewhere that season 1 was fairly in-line with the books the series is based on, and then in season 2 they started to do more of their own thing. Also, the guy who wrote the books lives somewhere between where and I live in FL. He lived in Miami for a long time and that's why he portrays the city and its people pretty well.

My boyfriend hates the sister as well. He says its her mouth...LOL I dont mind her.
