Made this for the Thanksgiving dinner that our friends thru for us. First off, finding a crock pot in Kuwait was NOT the easiest thing to do. And after 4 places that I went, someone finally told me that it's called a 'Slow Cooker' here. And apparently only a few places actually have them here...it was a relief to find one! Now I'm all about crocking it....
Cherry Crumb in a Crock Pot
1. 1 or 2 cans of 21 oz pie filling -- can be any kind, I used cherry
2. White or Yellow cake mix -- 1st try I used vanilla, the 2nd time I used orange, but you can use anything that you want
3. 1/2 cup melted butter
Put the pie filling in the bottom of the crock pot. Mix the dry cake mix and the butter together until it forms a crumble like texture. I use my hands to mix it all together. Then put the dry mix on top of the pie filling. The recipe initially calls for only one can of pie filling, but I found that it was way too sweet, so that's why I added the second can. Cook on low for 3 to 4 hours. Do not take off the lid until ready to serve. Scoop out and put vanilla ice cream on top. Taste's so great!!!! You can also add nuts into the mixture as well.
The second time I made this, which was 2 days ago, it was for about 25 guys, American & British Soldiers that had been living out in the desert for the past month eating only MRE's for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Needless to say, this was gone in a matter of minutes. Also made them Oreo Jello Cookie pies too...I laughed at how fast they were gone!

omgosh, this sounds yummy. I will have to make this for dessert this weekend !
Yes, this bachelor can cook--sort of, lol
I do this in my oven but with a slight variation. 1 can cherry pie filling and 1 can crushed pineapple (don't drain). Mix those together and place on the bottoms of a glass 8.5 x 14 pan. Mix the topping just like above and bake at 350 for about 45 min. and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream...yummmmm
now I'm hungry for it (I see a trip to the grocery store now).
I made this the other day, and it came out awesome! I used Devil's Food Cake and cherry pie filling, and it was gone. Next time, I'm going to make apple pie filling from fresh apples like I normally would for pie, and try a spice cake for the crumbles. Thank you sooooo much for this, since I don't have a working oven.
BTW, the reason you had a hard time finding a "Crock Pot" is because that's a brand name that we've come to use all the time, like "Band-Aid".
