Critters Amongst Us!

I'm learning from various threads that Morris the cat and/or Fido the dog are no longer the norm for household pets. Ferrets, birds, fish, lizards/iguanas, snakes, hermit crabs, ducks, turtles, potbelly pigs (mmmm bacon!).....and probably various others I am missing are now everyday household pets.

We are researching types of dogs to consider. After having one for 16 years, a Cocker Spaniel, then having none since December, we're missing her. We will never get another Cocker, it just would not be the same. Here she is out in the pool doing a few laps with her doggles on!

We wanted a Weimaraner, but learned that while they are so incredibly beautiful, their headstrong personality makes them a high maintenance pet during their adolescent years. Learned that a Yorkshire Terrier is a great breed for families with allergies. Not sure if we want a ratty yappy pet!

What do you have as a household pet? Do your children want the unusual? Do they help in the care and maintenance of the pets?

 You guys have some beautiful animals! An Akita is one of my favorite dogs. So powerful and they are so loyal.

And the horses...omg, I am so jealous.

and to you Angela, I am so sorry. the loss of a pet is so difficult.

I took this at my farm before x-mas....I'm pretty sure she was telling me I needed to go home and shower Anyhow this is one of my "babies" but I'd have to agree that Labs are GREAT as far as indoor pets and kids are concerned  when I was little I wanted a horses in the house SO bad though...

I got a new kitty!!!!! His name is Jinx. He's beautiful! He has some Siamese in him, because his ears are Siamese looking and he has blue eyes!!!!

I'm a huge animal lover.... RecentlyI've been finding my-self going to alot of pet fairs & animal events... A great pet to get is a labrador!!! They have the best character ever!! We've had Buddy for almost two years... We got him for christmas and soon after discovered he was a parvo puppy.... We immediately took him in for treatment and he stayed at the vets for about 5 days under iv.. Luckly he made it!! =) He is our little spoiled brat & actually very well trained.. He learned soo fast!! He can do tricks & its been over a year since the last time he peed inside the house..(lol)  Did i mention he's an indoor dog.. He loves loves loves! the water... We always bring him along when we take the boat out & now were thinking of a way to climb him on the jet skies.... lol.. BUT.. it isint recomended to get a lab as a guard dog since they are wayy to friendly... But im still shocked on how protective he was with us when we took him camping (which he loves also) Anywho. before I write a book... Here are some pics of our Buddy Bear...

Well I could post in this forum all day long. But I'll have to go get pics. Currently the rats are our favorite project (we have 4, the 3 girls have girls, and the boy ahs Mario) Ok, the girls live in a cage and Mario lives in one. Well, apparently the boy, feels that Mario gets lonely, and lets him play with the girls..... ok, so now we have 7 baby rats... YAY.  

BTW rat;s make incredibly GREAT pets!

We  have 2 bearded dragons, which I LOVE, an Snieder's Skink who used to be sweet but tends to bite, a tortoise, a snapping turtle who we rescued off the side of the road.  55 gallon fish tank with all tropical fish.

My "dumpster kitty" who is just that - I got her from a dumpster & she is the BEST!

My pound puppy who we rescued from a drug raid at 6 weeks.  She is 100% Staffordshire Terrier - aka pitt - & the sweetest thing in the world.  I have had this breed my entire life & the rep they have is only warranted if the owners are irresponsible.  

I  had a Weimeraner - gorgeous, awesome, but she was agressive toward my daughter & was always dominating her - nipping, etc... so we gave her to a close friend.  If there are no kids in the picture and you have A LOT of time to run them, train, etc., they are great dogs, but they need a lot of excersize, etc or they become frustrated.

Pound pups are the best - save a life & get a best friend in return!
