Re: computer screen problems

What do you have - a desktop or notebook? CRT or LCD monitor?

And I REALLY need you describe more detail about the problem and when it occurs.

If you have a CRT (big old-fashioned monitor) and it seems like it's flickering really, really fast and is mainly noticeable when moving your mouse across the screen then you can adjust the refresh rate in Display Properties. If this is what you think it is and you've never done it before, come back here for instruction because if you pick a wrong setting it could be bad. Kinda like the guy in the cave who drank from the wrong cup in that one Indiana Jones movie.

If the display is actually rocking and rolling, you have more serious problems. This often indicates an actual problem with the monitor itself. But don't take it out back and shoot it yet. Check the easiest and obvious things first like unplugging and replugging the cable that connects the monitor and computer.

So do the stuff above and post back. It could be the drivers but don't do the driver thing yet until you check this stuff.

Re: computer screen problems

If your son recently recovered your computer, I wouldn't think twice in do it all again as you already have all the backups you may need. I belive this is the best and easiest way to ensure it will work fine again. I've seen the others post and for me it doesnt seens to be a simple driver problem.

Re: computer screen problems

did your son check to make sure that the correct and most recent video-drivers are installed?
that would be the first thing that i would check.

Re: computer screen problems

you should be able to check in your control panel to update your driver or at least get your info then go online and dl the latest drivers off the website.

pcpitstop.com  is a good site to diagnose for problems too.

Re: computer screen problems

the easiest way is probably to run your Windows Update.  If that does not get new drivers or fix the problem, we'll have to get into identifying your video-card and finding, then installing new drivers from the manufacturer.
