Computer Moniter Issues

When the screen goes black and there's a tiny burst of light in the center of the screen that means that the moniter can't be used anymore right? Because for the past few weeks I noticed that sometimes that would happen but this afternoon it happened again and it seems to be perminant. I'm going to check on it again but does anyone have any suggestions for what I should do? And reasons for why it happened in the first place?

Monitors last a pretty long time and you are more likely to replace a computer at least 2x before a monitor breaks, thus why a lot of "Monitor not included" type selling of computers.

In my case I haven't had to pay for a Monitor since..sheeze...

With the new pLasma Flat Screens being the Rage it isn't unusual to see a perfectly working monitor  sitting on the side at the dump. I usually put it in my car and more often then not it is still in perfect working order.

Last visit to a Dump with a Recycle reuse center had like 5 monitors sitting on a table (recycle center doesn't take monitors so they were by the bins) but there was rain that day and the monitors got wet so...thats the breaks

As far as your Monitor, it's over, cause it sounds like the part that writes the images on the screen is broken. If a monitor doesn't work when I pick it up it usually does the same thing.

Re: Computer Moniter Issues

the above posts are right, touching the wrong wire, even after the monitor has been unplugged for a few hours can give you a pretty big shock like touching a stun gun or automobile coil (10,000 v +). It's hard to say what your problem is without looking at it. It could be an internal problem with the monitor, or it could even be your video card or a glitch in the software commanding the monitor into standby.

Don't try to repair it yourself, take it back to the place you got it or to a repair shop. Computer Circuitry has grown so advanced that you need lots of experience & schooling with special test equipment to repair it.

S T O P ! !

STEVIE IS RIGHT !!! BB if your not comfortable or have never delt with electronics, I recommend NOT trying to do it yourself. There is a chance that you could shock yourself even if the monitor is unplugged. Check into your warranty....Some monitors are warrantied up to 3 years.  Take it to someone qualified, it may be cheaper to repair than replace. I just bought a new flatscreen monitor. If you keep your eyes peeled, you can find one pretty cheap. Good luck BB Again....unless you know what your doing - there is a risk of shock AND DEATH.

Re: Computer Moniter Issues

It's not that old - well I guess everyone could have their different opinions when it comes to computers but the moniter is from 2005. Now I'm thinking about the warrenty and if I'm covered that way. Hopefully I am but I wouldn't be surprised if I'm not. It's not a flat model and no I'm really not comfortable with taking electronics apart (haven't done it before) but that doesn't mean I wouldn't do it if I thought it would work.

I don't have a spare moniter unfortunatly but I think the actual computer is fine so all my information might be safe. I got the advice to hook up a laptop screen to my computer but I tried that this morning and it didn't really work out. I didn't do it right at all. When I turned the laptop on all I got was the other persons information - not my own. So any other suggestions? Perhaps more advice on the laptop thing? And thanks for trying to help. I'll look into taking off the rear cover but once I do that - resolder it? You mean it might have slipped and plug it back in or get an entirely new wire?

Hold on there!  STOP!!  Unless you are familiar with the term "discharge the caps", DO NOT open a CRT monitor case!

Re: Computer Moniter Issues

do you have a spare monitor you can plug into your machine, just to make sure it is not the video card?
