Christian hackers attack MySpace page

Christian hackers attack MySpace page

Radical Christian hackers have been waging an online war against atheism.

The hackers repeatedly attacked MySpace's Atheist and Agnostics Group page, deleting groups and members and renaming the site 'Jesus is Love'.

MySpace shut down the group last month despite having promised to keep it up after earlier hack attacks.

The site was put back up in February, but some members are still being barred and some discussions are lost. MySpace has yet to comment on the issue.

"MySpace is running foul of existing laws on religious tolerance," said Terry Sanderson, president of the National Secular Society.

"It is disgraceful that this site was taken down. It is religious discrimination because these actions will protect religious hackers to the detriment of others.

"There is a growing concern from radical Christians about these kinds of atheist websites and they are becoming much more aggressive."

Bryan Pesta, the Atheist and Agnostics Group moderator, started the group in 2004 and claims that it is the largest online gathering of atheists and agnostics.

"We are rebuilding from a recent hacking that banned most regulars and deleted many of the threads that gave us our character," the page states.

"I owe someone at MySpace a thanks for restoring the group, but at the risk of pushing my luck, 'unbanning' the regulars would be really cool too."

MySpace was acquired last year by News International, which is owned by born again Christian Rupert Murdoch.

Is this chicken, what I have, or is this fish? I know it's tuna, but it… it says "Chicken of the Sea".

Re: Christian hackers attack MySpace page

nah they wouldn't be a threat, they may be pushy with trying to convert people but they do have rules against defamation of other religions because they are on the receiving end so often. In fact I remember a while back when wiccan groups where trying to become a recognized religion in the eyes of the US military and the Mormons where the first to come to their defense

That wasn't all that long ago, Wicca was only recognized by the US Military in April of 2007.  And yes, the Mormons were surprisingly helpful.  Although, considering what they had to go through to get "permission" to have their angel on their headstones, I guess it's not all that surprising.  What concerns me more is the fact that any religion needs governmental approval, but that's a completely different rant.

This scares me, though.  Who's next?  I feel like I should be passing this along to all of my Pagan groups,  just in case.  Start backing up older threads?  Maybe take down any Pentacle images on my page?  I'm being a bit facetious, of course, but only a bit.  The fact that there are people who would do that in the first place, well, it doesn't shock me in the least.  One of the first Pagan festivals I ever attended was on a small site, and most attendees had to park in a lot off-site, about a mile down the road from the camping area.  We had a car running people back and forth as needed.  Well, the first night there, we learned the hard way that maybe we should have a 24 hour guard at the lot.  Close to half of the cars had been vandalized, spray painted with "Jesus Lives", "Jesus Saves", and the like.  Littered amongst the Christian propaganda, the occasional car had been tagged with "Baby Killer".  Yep.  Because there are actually people who are that ignorant, and they live amongst us.  Early the next morning, when someone saw what had happened, the police were contacted.  They took care of everything, performed an investigation, and eventually 4 kids in their early 20s were charged.  Because that's how things like that are supposed to be handled.  Promptly, professionally, and fairly.  It's absolutely disgraceful that MySpace isn't doing anything about it.  Kinda makes me wonder just how much of our right to free speech we give up when we agree to MySpace's TOS...

"How do you know I'm mad?" asked Alice.
"You must be", said the cat, "Or you wouldn't have come here"
