HI GUG! I am having issues with my computer at home. When i try and click on IE or comcast it says it cannot connect. I did the diagnostic and it said there IS an internet connection. Comcast helped as much as they could and also said there isnt a problem with the internet connection and that a setting might have been changed. My husband said that he was able to get to the internet by using the Real Player. Any ideas guys on how I can get the Internet links to connect me directly to the net again?
Cannot Connect to Internet???
Comcast is Wireless or Cable Modem yes?
Since the Real player is working then it meand that the Lan settings might be goofed up
To check
1) Open internet explorer and click on tools
2) Click on Internet options
4) Click on Connections
5) Make sure there is nothing in Dial up if you don't have a dial up modem
6) Click on LAN Settings
7) Make sure only automaticly detect settings in checks and hit OK if you had to change anything and OK to get out of Internet option
close all Internet Explorer windows and try logging on again.
Sometimes you may need click on the network settings and get ready to click the "repair" option quickly after unpluging the power to the Cable modem for 10 seconds then replugging it
Just do a system restore if you have a restore point and if its a software issue it should fix the problem...It sounds like Real Player is part of your problem. just go to start, all programs, accessories, system tools then system restore. Make sure you click on a date that is BOLD and stands out from the other dates or it will not do a restore. You can also check and see if your Winsock settings were affected by malware. good luck!!
No. Its not a lap top. I have used the internet on this computer for years now. We had family over that used it and Im not sure what they did. But I know i def have an internet connection because I got on through the real player. I'm so confused on how I can't connect to the net through IE or Comcast. Any more suggestions. FYI I use the modem from Comcast and that shows that the internet connection is running fine.
I seriously can't come up with anything else that the link provided by me didn't cover.
Please do this:
Start->Run->type in cmd->type in ipconfig /all
Right click the "blue" bar of the terminal and go to edit->select all
Then press enter - it is now copied.

Ok so this might also sound stupid but are you on a new lap top? I say this because I got a new work lap top and had the same problem. I thought I was loosing it - I'm pretty good on computers. I could even see the signal but got nothing. I even pestered poor Foamy who spent all of this time trying to help me to only find out that a lot of the new lap tops have a button to allow any internet signal. Now this button is not marked that is what it is for and it's on the front of the lap top (so easily pushed in). My new work lap top is a IBM Thinkpad but I also bought my neice a lap top and it was a Toshiba and darn if it had that button too. Crazy but just throwing that out there. Foamy said he had never heard of a button but yep they are there now on some.

Are you using a router? I've had to actually call the router company before and have them take me through the steps to fix it. Also, if you are using a router..make sure the antenna is actually connected..haha...I did that once where my antenna was completely disconnected from my router and therefore couldnt get a connection.
Or if you use a music downloading program, sometimes that will dump you off the net.
