Can we eliminate hits when clicking on a profile?

Can we eliminate hits when clicking on a profile?

Is there a way to eliminate a "Hit" showing up under someone's MySpace profile views?

Re: Can we eliminate hits when clicking on a profile?

What is the "View Source," and do we need to be logged in to do this?

Re: Can we eliminate hits when clicking on a profile?

So it sounds like many of us have the same issue. We want to be able to look at a target's profile, but don't want their hit counter to register anything. I typically open a firefox session and leave it open for a week or so...using the same windows for my usual browsing. What if I login to my target's profile, and leave the session open simply refreshing when I want to see what they have been up to? Would this register a hit each refresh, or just the initial hit? Do I make any sense?

Re: Can we eliminate hits when clicking on a profile?

view source gives you the underlying html code for a profile. (every graphic, picture, etc is produced by a html code.)

you dont have to be logged in to do it. Just put it in the address bar and load the page and then scroll down to see the "written version" of the page.

this is not supposed to add hits to the page (which is the whole purpose i use it for so that i can check my targets last login date and quote without adding hits) However, i just tested it again on one of my fake profiles and i had a hit appear!! It didnt do this to me before before during the many times i tested it. It's possible the hit came from somewhere else..but still trying to figure it out.

Im not exactly sure why a hit appeared, but i am kindof disturbed by it. Let me know if you have the same results. thx in advance.

Okay I'm a little confused, how exactly do you do this. I've opened up the view source typed in
"view-source:myspace.com/enter their friend id" (minus the quotes and put in the actual ID number...and then what?

Hi Summer77, I'm not too sure if you are referring to private or public profiles. The following will show you the all the information on public profiles without you ever having to go to the profile. However, if it is a private profile--this will only show the information that you see on the page that tells you the page is private...but this could be useful by telling you their last login date, quote, status/mood, etc. View the source of their page by typing the following in your address bar:

view-source:myspace.com/enter their friend id number here

this info came from a very helpful post from RJMG. One of my biggest concerns is adding profile views to my targets private profile view counter. I wanted to see their last login date without having to add hits to their page. recently I have noticed a delay of the last login date via view source--i have seen it be about a day behind sometimes, and then other times it will be a few hours behind. not too sure why, but I still find it to be very useful.

note: if there was a code for it, it wouldnt be in the open forum.

Re: Can we eliminate hits when clicking on a profile?

I tried this and it just shows a bunch of codes url links for their myspace but does not show their mood etc.I scrolleddown to end of page like soneone said but still nothing????.please show me step by step how to do this so it does not show up hits on their end.. Thanks

Re: Can we eliminate hits when clicking on a profile?

To make it easier to find what you are looking for use Ctrl F

For status: type in their display name

For Mood: mood

Last login: login

It may not be right with the first instance of your search but it WILL be with one of them. With my target i believe the status and login are with the 2nd time it finds the word.

Hope that makes sense.

Re: Can we eliminate hits when clicking on a profile?

it will show their last login date, quote, mood, location, age, etc.

after you load the page, you are supposed to see just a bunch of html because that is what view source does. They could be using codes to hide some of their headline section (such as last login, location, etc) and i dunno how that works in conjunction with using view source. But, since you have to use this in firefox, once you load the page, hit alt+f, then type in something that every profile has in "the area" of their headline section--which is probably their contact table. So hit alt+f and then type in their user name, and then hit alt+n 3 times and that should take you to their extended network box and the headline section will be not very far down from there. if they have a mood on their profile, you can just use the alt+f and then type in mood and the page will jump to that. (alt+f is a Firefox page search function)

as far as hits, like i mentioned i have tested it many times and never had a hit, but one showed up yesterday and i am still trying to determine if it was caused by using view source. i usually test it with fake profiles, so if someone does test it then let me know plz, thx in advance. i will try to test it again too. If it does give a hit--it may be just one per session similar to how the hits appear when you normally view myspace profiles. It never gave a hit before so im hoping that it was just a random hit from someone else that i happened to get at the same time. I will test this, and hoping someone can too.thx in advance.

Re: Can we eliminate hits when clicking on a profile?

Hey pat, isn't it ctrl-f to search? I thought alt-f was File.

Just checking, cause i get confused pretty easily, and don't want others to feel the same

update: awk!! i just tested it and it gave me another hit Sad Can someone confirm this plz?

I have been using this for a few months and it never gave hits when i tested it on fake profiles. I dont understand why it is now. I will be so devastated to find out it has been adding hits to my target each time i look at their page over the past few months :/

Re: Can we eliminate hits when clicking on a profile?

yes, it definitely increases hits on a profile if you haven't already viewed that profile that session.

Re: Can we eliminate hits when clicking on a profile?

Pat, I've never bothered to check, does a page register a hit when using cooliris?  I know it doesn't pick up on trackspace, as long as ad-block is in place, but I never thought to check hit count, and can't really play with 2 browsers right now.

Re: Can we eliminate hits when clicking on a profile?

LadyCerridwen48, with cooliris it did add a hit during the login session, but i havent seen it cause me to get tracked while testing it on fake profiles. Jewels said that it use to in the past.

About the view source, i hope it just recently started adding hits otherwise i am soooooo disturbed that i have been adding hits to my targets profile for the past two months and didnt even know it. i might as well have been just hitting her profile so that i could see her big beautiful picture and not a bunch of html jibber jabber.      **kicking myself big time***

jp: do you know if has this always added hits, or just recently? I tested in 2 months ago and thought it didnt.

 **still kicking myself**

Re: Can we eliminate hits when clicking on a profile?

pat, the first time i tested it was a couple weeks ago and it showed a hit then but i don't know about before that. Sad

Ah well, worth a shot.  I've got no other ideas.  Why can't whatever tracks you for that particular hit be blocked by AdBlock Plus?

Re: Can we eliminate hits when clicking on a profile?

My concern is the same as yours on a "Private Profile" . . . I want to see their last login date/Mood without having to add hits to their page.

Does "view-source:myspace.com/enter their friend id" eliminate hits from a "Private Profile?"

yes, i have tested it numerous times and have never had a hit by using it.

Keep in mind that I mentioned that there is a delay sometimes and I dont know why. For example, the view source may say 12/07/07 but if you then click on their profile it may say 12/08/07. I cant figure that part out yet. But, it will give you a good general idea of their last login.  The delay ranges from an hour up to a day sometimes.

Re: Can we eliminate hits when clicking on a profile?

Thank you . . . that answers my question . . . good stuff!
