Body Piercing and Jewelry. There are only two ways to view it. You like it or you don't. I'm a fan. Nose and naval. My kids all went through their "expressing themselves" years. The multiple ear piercing, gauging, tattoo earrings, tongue, snakebites, eyebrow, labret, and monroe/madonna (depends on the side). NO prince albert, nipples or genital piercing in my house....while they were in high school. Not that I am not open to it.....they were under the age of 18 at the time.

Anyone else a fan or appreciate the "self expression" of body piercing?

I have the normal ear piercings with the exception of a piercing on the cartiledge on my upper left ear. I also have a belly ring. I've been thinking of getting a tongue ring for some time now, but I don't know if it will play well with my job as a receptionist. So I might have to wait until I get another job.

I recently put my belly button ring back in. i love it. i had my nose pierced and my bottom lip pierce. i ended up taking them both out because i just got bored with them.

Muuuuuch better.... somehow my family still has no idea... even though my step mother caught it within 2 minutes of me talking to her.... and her biggest complaint is that she wants one too (my step-mother is only 7 years older than me)... as for the part of my family I see on a daily basis... *shrugs* I'm not hiding it, but I'm not gonna shove it in their face... one last thing I have to hear them whine about....

I have the short bar back in (10mm) and it doesn't come near my teeth unless I purposefully start playing with it... even when I eat it stays away... I can talk fine now (again, thanks to the short bar)....

My only complaint is that it makes eating push-pops (or any food you lick like ice cream or lollipops) a pain in the ass... it's kinda in the way.......... but that rarely comes up ... other than that I love it

I'm a newbie, and really computer stupid, but whoo hoo, this is something that I can talk about! Laughing out loud

I just got my belly button pierced yesterday, and it was a really great experience. The girl who did the piercing was super nice and very knowledgeable. She made me feel really comfortable, which made all the difference. I'd done research to make sure that the place was clean and up to code and all, and that was the most important thing, but I felt a lot better having someone who was, not only competant, but very reassuring, too. Smiling

Well it doesn't tickle. It IS needles, remember? LOL but no seriously it's not bad. More of a scratching feeling. And if you're looking to do it on your shoulder then that's not a bad spot. The pain differs depending on where on your body you get it.

Depends on where you get it done. Getting it done on the bone, where there isn't much padding flesh, is painful. Fleshier areas hurt a lot less.

one thing i would love to get, is my gf's initials on my right shoulder, in copperplate gothic light font, i know its not a good idea, but ive been with her for over a year, and i love her to death,

i probably wouldn't...a girl i know (and don't like) got her boyfriend's name tattooed on her wrist...and now, a year and a half later, she is in a relationship with a girl (yes) and still had the tattoo just sitting there on her wrist. she finally got it covered with some roses. i thought it was very funny, but that's only because i don't like her. i wouldn't want that scenario to happen to anyone else. i'm not trying to be a pessimist, it just isn't the best idea.

You're right, it's not a great idea. I'm not trying to be a pessimist, but things don't always work out the way you want them too. I wouldn't even let my husband get my name/initials on him, LOL MAINLY because i refused to do the same. And he's now my EX husband! I was in love too. My High School sweetheart, and sure enough after 10 years of dating, 7 of those married.... divorced.

My tattoo artist has a policy... "I'll tattoo any lovers name for free, but it's $500 minimun for the cover up."

funny that i actually ended up reading this thread and ended up seeing stuff addressed to me. Ya im a Body piercer, been in the industry for almost 10 years now so ive seen and done it all. Id be more than happy to give anyone that needs it some advice or answer any questions put out.

the toe piercing is nothing more than a novelty. easy enough on the piercers end to do if they know what they are doing, but any good piercer would tell you no in the first place. 2 BIG problems with that piercing, first feet are filthy so infection is almost a certainty, secondly the skin on your feet is alot different from the rest of your body making it probably reject (work its way out) pretty fast. on top of all this is would probably be painful as hell. good for a laugh and a picture but not much more.

Thanks for the reply. That's kinda what my "normal" piercer advised me. I had originally talked to a different one while away on a vacation, I kinda thought they were just trying to get my business. Which btw, I wouldn't have done. Not without knowing them.

Any suggestions on nice unique industrial jewelry?

good decision! i had mine pierced in february and it was just healed enough to ride the surf at huntington beach in july (years ago of course!).

Just an FYI, if you ever get keloids on any of your piercings (which is a little kinda hard "bump") Crush an aspirin, not tylenol or motrin, into some warm water to make a paste. Rub it on the keloid. Rub hard. Repeat for a few days.

I just thought of this as I am sitting with aspirin paste on one hole of my industrial, but it DOES work!

my industrial keloided as well, and I try so many things to bring the bump down...the h2ocean spray, warm sea salt soaks (I really thought those would work, but they didn't) etc. Finally, I went to my piercer and asked him about it. He "prescribed" this oil called Emu Oil and told me to dab in on the keloid a couple times a day. I did so and the bump--which had been there for months--was gone in just a few days! Industrials are SO notorious for keloiding and forming scar tissue, but in the end it's well worth it. Anyway, if your bump(s) isn't't gone by now I strongly recommend the Emu Oil. the only thing is, my dad bought it for me and I don't know where he got it from, and I'm not sure where you'd find it. It shouldn't be too hard though.

usually 4-6 months for a fully healed piercing. longer for others. if you are active in water and such, i would wait until summer is over. when you do get it, i used sea salt recommended by my ink & piercing guru and provided by him as well. added a 1-tsp to a shot glass of hot water and tipped it upwards to my naval and held the hot salted water solution over it for 5 minutes as often as i could each day.

The sea-salt trick works wonders. I used a larger glass, and warm, not hot water, and it never once got infected. I (stupidly) got mine pierced around this time of year (5 years and 2 days ago, to be exact), and I will say, if you sweat easily or a lot, do yourself a favor and WAIT FOR AUTUMN!!! Sweat dripping into a freshly pierced belly button stings like hell, and since the piercing is large and takes a long time to heal, sweat still bothered it in August. Looking back, I should have waited until September or October to get it done, I would have enjoyed my summer much more.

My belly ring got ripped out twice...so i'd steer clear during summer when you are "frolicking" more. I have a nasty scar now...that i HAD to cover with a tattoo haha!

LMAO I'm exactly the same way, my daughter laughs at me when either of us has to get blood drawn. I can't even be there to help her through it. Thank goodness, she loves watching it get done and has no fear. At least one of us is brave!

Don't worry Pinky, the belly piercing was the one that hurt the least (at least for me)! Just look away when you see the needle and violá, it's over in less than a second. The pain also wasn't as bad as you think it would be Eye-wink

I got my bellybutton pierced and it started to grow out so i got it repierced and the same thing happened. It really sucked cause i liked it a lot and had all sorts of fun colors and designs and now i can't wear them. Sigh. I have heard of a couple others doing this but not many i guess my body didn't like it or something!

I went to a professional so i am just assuming the they know what they are doing but i went to two different professionals each time i got it pierced and it was like it was thick at first and then as the weeks went by you could actually see the bar through my skin it was really weird!

Well... get this. I promised my 10 year old she could get a helix piercing (her cartilage) on the last day of school. So, diligent mom I am, I call my fave piercing studio just to double check age requirements, etc. Well, apparently the city has passed a new law, forbidding any child to be pierced via needle under the age of 16. So my only option would be to have it done with a gun. Sorry, but no. Not safe.

So now mom gets to research studios OUTSIDE the city (since well, all the ones I already have researched and trust are IN THE CITY), and trek out there. What fun. Go figure.

Good decision, critterkeeper. I got my cartilage pierced by a gun (I didn't know better at the time) and it's the only piercing that gives me a lot of problems-even if I got it done almost 10 yrs ago, it still gets infected every time I touch it.

Did you find a good studio outside your city yet?

Yes, found 2 that I'm happy with. One is actually a sister studio to my normal one, they normally don't do anyone under 13, but for cartilage they said they will. So Wed, or Thurs is the big day.

Well yesterday was the day, I left my SD card at home, so all I have is a grainy cell phone pic for now. She was awesome for it. I think the piercer was more nervous than she was, she was the youngest person he ever pierced. She did make him move the purple dot like 4 times til he got it exactly where she wanted it. (which btw I applaud, hey it's HER ear!) She felt like hot stuff too, because she had to sign the release form herself, of course I did too, but still she liked that.

right on critt.k! i was waiting for pics so i can show mini me. she too felt like hot stuff when she received her second lobe piercing. looks cute! i have that same piercing (in the pic) but keep just a diamond stud in it.

She was debating on a post, but went with the CBR instead. Less tangling for her ridiculously long hair. She's already been online looking at horsehoes, and different color CBR's for when she's allowed to change it. Goes to show the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!

Yeah she already has 2 holes in her lobes, she took excellent care of them when we got them done 2 years ago or so.. LOL, the ex hubby is not a happy camper about me allowing that, or this new one. But c'mon it's her ears! I'm not taking her to get a tattoo............ at least not yet

i have my tongue and lip pierced Smiling .. THe chicks digg it, and i think i put them through fantasy land every once in a while hehe... and so they say...

When i got my tongue pierced it sucked though... i was eatting baby food for like 2-3 weeks straight... Chewing took a while to get used to, especially during swelling.

BUT HEY i say if your gonna get pierced, do it proffessional... Smiling my friend had his done by another friend and his eye brow got infected, just giving you heads up...

Ok I'm on a mission to find unique jewelry for my industrial (14g, 1.25 or 1.5") The one I currently have is actually quite unique, but I'm itchin for something new. I'll take a pic tonight and post tomorrow. Any ideas? Thanks in advance all!

I have some expletive balls on some of my piercings. I love them. People always have to stop and stare for a few minutes haha.
