Blue Screen Error My Dell Computer wont boot

Hi,

I have a Dell Dimension and it recently tanked and won't boot. So I decided to reformat it reinstall Windows Xp, but its not doing anything. I follow the reinstallation steps to the Welcome page and press Enter to begin setup and it freezes at;

Examining 38147 Mb Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi...

That's it, it wont move and I've left it alone for 24 hours and it's still there. Is there anything that can be done? Please help me.

Short Answer?

Your Hard Drive is Toast, most likely within the MBR area area that manages the Partion tables.

You can try http://support.microsoft.com/kb/121517 but it so much sounds like the Hard Drive has physically had it rather then a corruption of data.
