When someone calls your roommates boyfriend and informs them they have a puppy they need to get rid of...make sure before you agree to buy the dog you ask HOW OLD the puppy is. I was expecting a cute little ball of energy. I ended up with an adorable 9 month old dog. Who is technically still a puppy, but...not what I expected. Better in a few ways, she's 90% house broken. Still very puppy like in wanting to CHEW CHEW CHEW. They had named her Bugsy...which I am not too fond of. I changed it to Baby. Which I like better, but it still sounds close. Here is a cute pic of her eating her rawhide...

Awww, she's precious! I honestly don't think pets recognize words and names so much as tone of voice. I've taken to calling Sid "Monkey", not so much because he climbs, but because of the poo flinging (AARRGGHH!). Cassie's nickname had been "Pumpkin", but now I call her "Punky", since it rhymes with Monkey. Other times it's "See-Do", as in "monkey see, monkey do", because she's such a little copykitty. They both answer to whatever I call them, they know by my tone and inflection that they're being called.
Has your young lady been spayed yet?

Nope...she's not fixed. I don't think I'm going to get her fixed. She's been bred once and had the puppies fine, so maybe come spring I'll breed her again. I know someone who has a full blooded male. It's something to think about. She has her first vet appt. in October. She's been really well behaved today, other than begging...which I know it'll take some time to teach her things...she does know "sit" now...after only working with her for a little bit
So cute~ I dont think animals (or people really) are super picky about what you call them. One of my kittehs is named molly...but i doubt she knows that. I call her Polly-Wog. No idea how or why that name came about, but she answers to it. Another one I called PrettyPretty, or PurtyPrincess....again, no where near her actual name. I wouldnt stress too much over it, its still a puppy and will adapt easily. Congrats!

LOL...no they really don't and you can change their names often as my kids do...we have a lab named Koda that somehow became Papas...then Dodo when the baby came along which morphed to Doda and is finally back at Koda. He comes if you just say Dog.....Fatty Godaddy on the other hand will give you an FU stare if you call him anything but Fatty GoDaddy....
had a dog named taco, a cat named fruit loops, a cat named cheerio's, a cat named butter, a cat named EULA
I rarely call my dog or child by their real name. That's the beauty of these things we love. Nicknames. My daughter is always pumpkin, pumpkin pie, baby girl, etc. The dog is ninners, ninnery noo, lilly loo. Her real name is Lilly.

Nicknames are like code for "you're special!" My kids are Mini (16), Budders (10), and Ittybittypritty (2). They also all have B nicknames that we have been informed we may not call them in public. I think it is the history behind them that makes nicknames so sentimental...Ittybittypritty is Baby because she is our last, Budders is Butter because he had a thing with feeding the dog sticks of butter when he was little, and Mini is Boo because her dad and I called each other boo (mine) and Babe (his) so when we broke up it only felt right that that nickname go to her. Every time I call them by their nicknames I can remember them as babies when they first earned that nickname...I love the walk down memory lane...but I am just a giant mushball anyway...
i think my son will never know what his name is. ha! i call all my kids boo. its something my hubby called me when (omg so long ago) we started dating. i had a puppy once that we called nova. (his sister was venus) and i swear her thought we were always yelling at him "NO-VA". we ended up calling him pup. and avoiding his real name. thought we were stressing him out too much with all the "NOs".
your new addition is cute though! congratsand enjoy your shoe shopping spree! theres always a silver lining! ha!
