Please, throw me some cordless mice.
I had a Logitech (something X-700, label worn off, rechargable batteries, had to remember to put baby in the cradle every night) - lasted a few years, good little mouse. Current mouse is Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 5000, and although it eats batteries, I prefer it. I know retraining myself to use a cradle will cause a few powerless mornings til I'm used to it again, but I'm open to replacing the Logitech since it was so good, too.
But now Micro Mouse is acting weird. I've done a battery change and it's no better. Only had this for about 6 months - I think the critters should last longer. Off to get a new Logitech unless someone tells me otherwise.
My needs are pretty simple - wireless is all really. I don't need anything fancy - I won't install software for a freakin' mouse. The ones I mention do come with software for all the enhanced features (that I don't need), but not required to use the roller and left and right buttons. Oh and it's for a Windows desktop.
So show me the mice you love. And why. Or if you just have any suggestions for someone who has just basic needs.
Thanks!

I've got the Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 and it's fantastic. It has a pretty good hand feel and it easily has the best scroll wheel of all time (completely smooth scrolling - no clicks or anything and has a very nice tilt ability for side scrolling)
Just got my new mouse from TigerDirect and I am in LOVE! I think it's just the-week-after-foamy-bought-his version, Logitech 610. Still debating on whether or not to install the software - but its plug n play "version" works fine for my needs at the moment.
I think my issues with Microsoft mice date back to the first wireless I bought. The darn thing was so squeaky - I took it back and bought a Logitech. I was told lots of people were returning the Microsoft (I forget the model), so I wasn't surprised the most recent one I did keep only lasted a few months. I'm convinced Microsoft makes shoddy mice now.
I love that the 610 has no receiver, no charging base, no clutter. The right side of my desk is nice and tidy and open.
Thanks to everyone for their input! Codes schmodes. It's getting solid and articulate opinions from others about - well, anything - that makes GuG so special! Group hug and the first round's on me!
I miss my logitech v200 ... USB, plug and play. You can take the reciever out and plug it into the mouse to turn it off. it's nice and small but not too small. It doesn't eat batteries as much as one would think. (Non-rechargeable) it usually takes me 1-3 months of use depending on how often I use (which is alot, almost every minute that I'm home. I'm a geek. lol) before it dies. It also tells you *via little light ont he mouse turns from green to red or desktop software if you install it) when your batteries are low.
Cute little thing that I loved. but... I put my laptop in my bag and forgot it was still plugged-in so I broke the reciever on accident. haha. And I'm too broke to buy a new one at the moment. Which by the way, the little mouse is pretty cheap I think.. $39 > in store... usually about $15 (Shipping included) on ebay.
I've been also looking at the logietch LX7.. but I'll prolly end up with another v200. They cost about the same. LX7 I think has a few more basic features but the v200 seems smaller.
I upgraded to a Microsoft wireless laser mouse 5000 about a year ago & love it. It is very accurate. I have actually gotten it to work at distances up to 20 feet away from the PC. I chunked the energizer battery's it came with & put in Duracell, It has worked on those for about a year & it's still going strong.

OK I have a Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0 (model # 1008) - it's a laser mouse. I've had it a couple of years and HA only had to change the batteries once *knock on wood* and trust me it gets it's use. Note the batteries are Energizer
The receiver (that came with it) is Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse Receiver 2.0 (model # 1013) USB/PS2 compatible
Now with that said it will probably stop due to dead batteries

You can't go wrong with any of the Logitech or Microsoft mice I have both I use an MX 600 at home (no recharge base) and normal batteries last about 4 months
I like the mouse because it is well balanced and has a nice comfort curve, has 10 functions (can't ever have a mouse without a back button again) and is easy to reprogram the options you don't use
Installing mouse software is optional but not having to use scroll bars, back buttons, or tabs is worth the 5 minutes it takes and you also get to see the power level on your batteries
I would also suggest going to Lowes and getting a recharger with batteries they run about 15$ and come in handy also saves money

I honestly think this might be all the advice I need, thanks foamy. I'll check out the 600 rather than the 700 if it has no base. I might look into software someday - still don't like the idea of yet another program running though.
The Logitech software runs in the back round and uses max 4MB of RAM, without it running most of the extra buttons don't work
The wireless receiver for the 600 is a USB dongle (looks like a flash drive) it also has an extension so you can move it to diff position
