Batman: The Dark Knight (No Spoilers)

Batman: The Dark Knight (No Spoilers)

Okay Batman fans! Today The Dark Night opens in theaters across the U.S. and I am anxious for feeback. Remember, no spoilers for at least 30-days.

I think some folks are still reeling over Heath Ledger's death and quite possibly his best role and final performance in a film. The movie poster was changed to one of Christian Bale as Batman after Ledger's death. Director Kevin Smith gives The Dark Knight an excellent review. Kevin Smith wrote the following on his blog:

“Courtesy of Peter Sciretta over at SlashFilm.com, I caught an early screening of “The Dark Knight” yesterday evening.Without giving anything away, this is an epic film (and trust me: based on the sheer size and scope of the visuals and storytelling, that’s not an overstatement). It’s the “Godfather II” of comic book films and three times more earnest than “Batman Begins” (and f*c&, was that an earnest film). Easily the most adult comic book film ever made. Heath Ledger didn’t so much give a performance as he disappeared completely into the role; I know I’m not the first to suggest this, but he’ll likely get at least an Oscar nod (if not the win) for Best Supporting Actor. friggen flick’s nearly three hours long and only leaves you wanting more (in a great way). I can’t imagine anyone being disappointed by it. Nolan and crew have created something close to a masterpiece.”

Which actor best played Batman & which Batman remake, prequel or sequel was your favorite?

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight (No Spoilers)

I LOVED IT. I am perennially skeptical of new releases, things I have to see at the theatre, because the directors/producers are working under such tight restrictions - if a movie's going to be made, it has to be marketable, which hardly ever makes it *good.* Still, I've been a Batman fan since I was eight (I highly recommend the animated series, it is amazing) and was eager to see this after finally seeing 'Batman Begins.' Honestly, I think it was almost flawlessly done, I hardly noticed the hours passing. The continuity, the acting (especially Heath Ledger, as you'd all agree), the BATMAN. And Christian Bale, who is a hot piece. Definitely worth the time and money, though I wish I'd been able to catch it on IMAX.

Best movie that's been out in years. Hollywood finally got something right.

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight (No Spoilers)

really wwant to see this. i've heard positive reviews so far so cant wait. i just hope i'm not dissapointed after all the hype. wasnt aware oft he batman voice so i'm intrigued now.

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight (No Spoilers)

Saw it at the IMAX and it was amazing.  This is my 2nd time seeing it, had to take my little one to check it out as he's a big fan.  Now that you guys mentioned the voice, so true.  At one point in the film I realized it, just didn't sound right.  Too fake.

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight (No Spoilers)

i finally saw it.  it was really good.

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight (No Spoilers)

Got to see it last night. I loved it! Laughing Friends we went with thought it was just "all right", but I really loved it. It was so dark. I guess that's what I've always loved about the Batman universe.

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight (No Spoilers)

Saw the movie, not IMAX though, they didn't have it. It was a pretty good movie, Heath Ledger made an awesome Joker, great performance! The only thing wrong was Batman's voice, so annoying, I got over it, but I still think they could have made the voice normal!!

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight (No Spoilers)

You won't need to be reminded... it's... like... distracting actually.... from the first time he uses it..... you can't help but be like wtf?.... I understand having to disguise your voice... ... but he kinda sounded like scooby doo... without the goofiness...

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight (No Spoilers)

haha, you're right! He does sound like Scooby Doo without the goofiness...lmao!

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight (No Spoilers)

that's funny about his voice.  after it being obvious in the previous movie you can hear it in his regular voice.  even in interviews.  he has a slight overbite and doesn't show his teeth much.  mixed with his aussy drawl you can still hear the batman a little bit.  haha.

i haven't seen the movie yet, gonna let the crowds die down.  is his bat-voice more exaggerated in the sequel?

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight (No Spoilers)

It is, but I didn't feel like it was a distraction. I heard it in the movie, knew it was part of the character, and that it was needed, and that was that.

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight (No Spoilers)

My review:

First off, I have to say that overall the movie is fantastic. Heath Ledge did a wonderful job as the joker; his dark humor really brought together the movie. I have to say that Batman's voice starts getting annoying after awhile, but you can overlook that with the killer action scenes, the action scenes are not over-the-top like other 2008 summer blockbuster, and however they are a bit more realistic considering its comic book based. This sequel blows it predecessor out the water. You can still feel confident in seeing this movie even if you did not see the first one. There is not much of a follow-up to the first one, so they really exceeded their limits on this one. I would most definitely see this movie again.

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight (No Spoilers)

I'm going to go watch this after work today!  Woo-hoo!  I cannot wait.  But, as much as I loved Chrisitan Bale's performance in the last Batman movie (he was/is awesome), does no one else think that Michael Keaton made a fantastic Batman?  I think he may be the best of all time.  Dark, sarcastic, with a dry humor...I dunno.  I loved him as Batman.

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight (No Spoilers)

I loved Keaton's Batman and he was also a personable Bruce Wayne.

i thought mickael keaton was a great batman too. funny thing is i came to realize this back when SNL did a skit on keaton playing jeopardy and he couldnt stop saying 'i'm batman,...i'm batman.' he was a great batman.  kilmer and clooney didnt hurt his performance either.

He really did.  I think he was just an awesome Batman.

I saw the Dark Knight Wednesday afternoon and I have to say to all- did NOT disappoint!  It was sooo good.  Loved it and wouldn't mind seeing it again!

This made a killing this weekend. "Go Bat..err..Joker!"

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight (No Spoilers)

Saw it last night.  What a wild ride!  Not really a Batman movie series fan, but I liked it.  Lotsa action.  The current Batman is like Jason Bourne in a cape.  He's a bad mofo...

Well it already set one day and midnight records..... And for good reason. It lived up to all the hype. I LOVED IT!!!

And yes, I now want to learn to make a pencil disappear!

Re: Batman: A ****SLIGHT SPOLIER A SLIGHT SPOILER****

Heath Ledgers performance was amazing.  He had me wanting to see more of him in the scenes. I saw it in a regular movie theater, I was desperate to see it in a place where it wont be sold out.  I'm definitely going to take my 6yo to see it at the IMAX, we saw the Hulk there and he loved it.

We need a Spoiler section, I wanna talk about how to make a pencil disappear!

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight (No Spoilers)

I saw it in a regular movie theater but will see it at the IMAX theatre when things die down a bit. I thought it was great. It might have been a little long and I wasn't impressed with Maggie Gyllenhaal but Heath Ledger's performance was brilliant. Even before his death, I saw the previews of TDK in a movie theater and was eager to see his performance....he didn't disappoint.

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight (No Spoilers)

I just saw on TV that if you have a imax they have specials that the regular theaters don't have.  I'm now so taking my boys to see it at the Imax by me now.  Anyone see it at a Imax?

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight (No Spoilers)

I just got home from seeing this and OMG.  I loved it.  Heath Ledgers performance was amazing.  He's the best Joker, it was crazy.  I dont want to say anymore as I dont want to spoil it but, I'm glad I went to see it.  I'll wait till we can say more about it (=

anyone catch howard stern a couple weeks back with guest vern troyer/mini-me?  he talked about being friends with heath ledger after working together on a film just after 'the dark knight.'  when asked, vern shared that heath was so consumed with channeling the joker performance that he never went out of character.  which lead to lack of sleeping problems which fueled a drug requirement.  which eventually lead to tragedy.

i read for heath to win an oscar it would be a challenge in that hes Australian and died of drug overdose.  i guess only one other actor to date has won an oscar after his own passing.

never the less ledger is such an incredible thespian performer and possessed a truly honed craft.

i would say that the best batman is christian bale and i really like how they brought in major talent (seasoned actors) to star in these current batman's.  like michael cain, morgan freeman,  gary oldman.  i can't wait to see dark knight.

i agree. bale performed to my expectations for the character. he's pretty versatile that way. i too prefer seasoned actors in remakes as well as in films that live up to their hype. introducing a new face/name in an already known story/movie line just does not quite fit. old great film + new unknown....nah. not the same.

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight (No Spoilers)

My hubby and I are going to watch this movie soon, as soon as the crowds go down, so maybe next week or during the week. I'll let you know how good of a movie it is, I'm sure it will be great, it had awesome reviews.
