Just wanted to convey that even though you have till midnight to postmark and mail your 2006 Tax Return, not all post offices will be open till midnight.
Our post offices are actually closing at 10:30 pm which was just announced today. So be sure to find out how long your local post office will be open if you are filing a paper return. Our post office is closing at that time, so they will have time to postmark all of the returns.
Also, for those that are using the E-Free File for your federal return, and do not wish to pay the extra fee (usually $12.95) for filing your state tax return......log onto your state website page and do a search for e-file or state tax return. I just did that with mine and I can file the state return online through e-file for FREE! I'm processing 3 returns right now and just saved everyone the $12.95 that taxact wanted to charge them.
Good luck with your taxes today. Should you be unable to finish your taxes on time, be sure to file for an extension. But if you owe money, you still must send it in, (doesn't make sense to me~~how are you going to know what to send in if you haven't finished figuring them yet?).
If you are expecting a refund, and you are still hunting down some receipts to increase your refund amount, by all means, file for the extension.
