Gwen pukes a lot.  Seriously, sometimes like 2 or 3 times a week.  Not hairballs, puke.  Stevie's method works really well, only instead of a dedicated towel, it's one of the few things I use paper towels for.  I'm with you, 'dogg, I don't want those chunks sloshing around inside my washing machine, no thanks, my undies go in there!  After the bulk of the solids are cleaned up, a wet/dry vac kinda rocks.  something like this will more than suffice:

but if you want to get all manly about it, there's always this:

After it's close to dry, I spray the heck out of the area with Febreze.

 Wow, I do the handkerchief thing too. Only, I put a dab of Vicks right under my nose. What can I say? I gag easily. I usually just pick up whatever vomit I can with some paper towels then scrub it. Steam cleaner is King, but we only use that when we notice too many stains.

Cat puke.  I know cat puke.  Get two flat things like 10"x10" paint shields:

The basic technique is using a firm grip, use the "dustpan method" by pushing the edges under the puke toward each other, scraping almost all of it up.  You should then be left with very little residue to clean up with a wet (and dedicated) dish towel.

I would stay away from detergents/cleaners because they leave a sticky residue that attracts dirt.  Just use water for the cleaning wipe job.

Thing one is to figure out why your cat is such a booter.  Could be the food.  Could be furballs.  If you can solve the problem at the source...

Really gross, but if you don't have a thick pile rug let it dry first.  I know, vile.  But makes cleaning it easier.  I highly suggest a steam cleaner.  I have the little Bissel.  I couldn't live without it.

We have three cats and two dogs.  One is the sort that Anime described.  The eater of all things.  But since he's also the one that wants to kiss us the most, we highly discourage his other "activity."  The other dog is a Dane.  You think a wee little cat puking is bad?  Dude... You'd pass out cleaning up Dane puke. 

I do the Jesse James thing, too!  I'm glad someone else does.  Makes me feel like less of a freak.

i've never known a guy friend or relative with a pet cat. most have dog(.  so, i'm going to guess/suggest maybe a wet/dry vac? or there are several "How to clean up cat puke" videos on YouTube, believe it or not!
