An idea to stop private profiles!
I have an idea that I would like to ask gug forum members their opinion: If private profiles were banned from the "top friends" of myspace sites, would this lead to more open profiles? Would you "go public"? And of course we wouldn't have to ask the private profile to be added - in order to find out who they are! Over to you!

No, I don't think the top friends thing is it.

People think their more important then they're and being private on a social networking site is retarded. Even better are people who think everyone they've "added" is their friend.

Just that label offends me. Friendship is something that's earned, you don't push a button for it.

Myspays is the cesspool of the internet. Young girls being inappropriately solicited. Others being little whores, guys being scumbags, everyone gossiping like old women ratting out their so-called friends and of course all the spam. There's nothing social about a meat and spam market.

I think being private on a social networking site is silly too, but some people just want something for their family and friends and not the entire world. Or they are being harassed, I guess thats understandable. Whats really ridiculous is not being able to see a private profile if that person has requested you. If anything, I think that should be changed. A request should automatically let the person see your profile, at least until they deny you or your request expires.

I think if a child under 18 wants a private profile, that's completely understandable and that is who the private profile option was originally intended for.  If you are over 18, and have a private profile, it's a bit ridiculous. If you don't want your personal business out there, perhaps these people shouldn't be on all of these network social sites.

 It is annoying to get a friend request from somebody whose page is private. I don't even bother adding them when I see that.

FYI folks.....It's the internet, it's not private. There are tons of ways around everything. And seriously if you think that just because your profile is on private and that no one can see anything then you're very wrong. Just as before, there will be a code to see everything on a private profile and the vicious cycle will start all over again. If you wanted your life to remain private, then, well, stay off the internet. It sounds harsh, but quite frankly it's the truth.

I am a beginner at this whole myspace but I will pay someone if they can email me the code to view private profiles. Its a personal thing...

I think many people like myspace because of the ability to keep some things private. I don't think it's a bad thing really either usually I guess it jsut gives some people peace of mind. OK they can be annoying sometimes but only giving them certain abilities would be like effectively punnishing people who wish for whatever reason to keep things about them private and thats not fair. Also I don't think myspace would want to alienate any amount of people by doing something like it. I think some people may change to non-private but most would keep private rather than lose out on something like not being top8.   ~Anyone can play guitar~

Feckin privacy I swear. I have nothing against myspace at all until I realised it is an avenue for cheating. See, the private profile thing made it a lot easier for those people to conceal their illicit affairs. Sorry, did I sound like I am venting? hahaha

I think that some, if not most, people would keep their profile private even if they weren't allowed into the top friends because their main concern is privacy..but that's just my opinion.

I'm not comfortable with that idea because I have a private profile. It wasn't private, I made it so because some creep started to stalk me on another message board, made fake profiles with my pics and made my life hell so I decided I wasn't gonna let that happen again. I'm a shy person, it took me quite a while to post my pic on the net, now I have it and I don't mind my (online) friends seeing them but I'm still very wary of strangers.
