I think I have multiple personalities, and one of them is a 12 year old teeny-bopper. so I am OBSESSED with American Idol. Well not too obsessed, I don't bother to vote, so I can't complain toooo much, but :

-What the hell is Sunjia ( that's phonetic ) even still doing on the show?

- How could they possibley vote off Sabrina?

- And what's wrong with the guys? Most of them are horrible.

- I think Pickler got a boob job, Carrie got Lypo and Fantasia went grocery shopping.

Maybe it's some kind of trick and they are trying to vote the worst singer in this year. Antonella should have never made it as far as she did!

Who do you guys think is gonna win?

Re: American Idol

I actually expected him to stay this week.  In all previous weeks, he's gotten horrible judge feedback..."It just wasn't very good", or "You need to step it up."  This was the first week that he didn't receive negative feedback from the judges.  Mind you, he didn't really receive exciting feedback either.  Randy simply said that it was nice to see him do something new, and Simon just said "That girl's face says it all" to the freak fan.  So if he slipped by on horrible weeks, of course he was going to make it this week.  Such a shame though...

Two weeks since this question was first asked... and STILL we're wondering....Undecided

I'm telling you, it's those doggone call centers in India! Surprised Kidding aside, I think that they DO mess with the sound system. I've noticed that some singers are barely audible at times, but when they show the 'recap' clips, they sound so much better. Another comment here mentions the same.

Re: American Idol

I don't know how far reaching a radio DJ's influence is but I'm in NY and there's a guy who does a show here, Howard Stern. I heard he started a campaign to keep Sunjiya in and is telling all his listeners to vote for him. But the station and Stern are not even pop or American idol type, I think it's just to mess with the system, could have something to do with it.

Re: American Idol

jae, do you mean THE Howard Stern who moved from regular radio to XM to avoid the FTC, and who is now on the verge of sinking because that broadcast industry peaked and plateaued too quickly? Laughing **side note; sold my XM and Sirius stock in the nick of time.**

I imagine that Howard's audience could pull off a "Keep Sunjiya" campaign for a short time. It seems to me that Howard is making a 'show of force' to Fox, as if to say: My audience is bigger than your audience. And as anyone who listens to Howard for longer than 20 minutes will attest; Howard has... *ahem*... shall we say, compensation and comparison issues. Surprised

Re: THE Howard Stern

I have no idea about all the politics and all I have is FM radio - I'm very high tech, but I would assume it's the same one. I'm also assuming you're not in NY, so maybe he is big enough to pull it off if you've heard of him! Sunjiya was not even in the bottom 3 last night, that's enough to make me throw up. Like the judges said he doesn't even try! It's gotta be some kind of set up or it's a very sad joke on the people who vote!

Re: American Idol

American Idol is legit with the voting an all, but it is obvious that there is some string-pulling going on behind the scenes.  Not outright "fixing", but even someone untrained in music has to notice the differences in the quality of Idol's backing music from singer-to-singer.

Some of the backing performances compliment a singer very well and some are downright impossible to sing to.  Sound engineers control the volume of all signals from each instrument and mic.  They have a rehearsal.  They know what works and what doesn't.  I don't think these mixing errors I hear are random or by accident.  And keep in mind that what we hear on our speakers at home isn't necessarily exactly what is heard in the studio.

They do this every year about this time.  On the show broadcast on 3/13, it seemed that the "powers that be" were selling Jordin Sparks to the voters.  Sometimes the extra juice they give the favorites is subtle, other times like in Jordin's case it's obvious.

Besides making sure AI stays a top-rated show, they do want to produce winners that are the most marketable.  Jordin may not have the uber-voice of the likes of LaKisha or Melinda but IMO, she is the one that would sell the best to the music-buying market.  I'm a realist and the market is what it is.

Oh... and I think the underground thing to keep Sanjaya in there is a riot! Laughing out loud

Re: American Idol

What is funny to me is that there aren't really any guys that have won Idol that have done anything. Kelly and Carey are the only ones that have really made it big. Well and of course Chris, but he didn't win, even thoug he really should have because he is amazing!!! It seems as though the guys always flop on that show. Like last year he was entertaining but I don't think he fit into any good genre of music that really appeals to the masses. For this year I think that Dolittle is awesome, but you never really know what will happen with the show, it never fails to amaze me about who wins.

Re: American Idol

And there are always contestants who are much better than some who seem to hang on for reasons that make no sense. I know my chin has dropped many times when someone is sent home who was awesome and the worst of the worst is still there. Go figure. I really think the voting public doesn't quite understand what AI is wanting from them. I mean, how many times have we heard Paula say "It's a singing contest" when someone great is voted off? I'm really convinced the majority of the people are voting for the cutest one or something like that.

I'm all for Melinda Doolittle too. Her last performance was incredible.

Re: American Idol

COUNSELOR: Folks, welcome to the Addiction Group. Let's start with our newcomer.

ME: Hi... my name is Idee, and I am an addict.

GROUP: Hi Idee...

ME: I was nervous about coming here today, but everyone tells me that I have to start showing some control. So I bought a DVR.

COUNSELOR: Idee, how is buying a DVR making you an addict?

ME: *YELLS* I RECORD AND WATCH AMERICAN IDOL!! (breaks down, sobbing Cry) AND I VOTED ONCE FOR LAKISHA!!! (sniffs) Well, maybe I voted twice, but they can't trace the phone numbers... can they? I mean, I did it for my FAMILY!

COUNSELOR: Idee, when was the last time you voted?

ME: (head hanging) Three weeks ago... (sighs) NO, I can't lie anymore - I'm here to get help... right? I VOTED ON TUESDAY - and I redialed for 20 minutes!!! (sobbing, head in hands, whispers) why do I do this.....?

COUNSELOR: Everyone, we often do things for our family that sometimes can hurt us in the process, like getting involved with American Idol. Watching is one thing.... voting is another.

ME: Well, Lakisha is going to win it all, so..... WHAT'S THE POINT?!?! (continues to sob) WHY BOTHER?! BUT THAT'S NOT THE ONLY SHOW.... I also record Survivor (sniffs)...and Digging for the Truth, 'cause Josh Bernstein is SO HOT (begins to lighten up - finally).

COUNSELOR: Idee, we have a different group you may want to join. It's called the Queens of Drama Group... and it's moderated by Pete Rose.

Laughing Thanks for 'listening' and for being there, my GuG friends! ~A. (Idee is my real life nickname)

Ok, I have to admit...I have never even watched American Idol.

Yes, I have been living under a rock the past couple of years...lol. Actually, I just don't watch much television.

Idee, your post just made me laugh, and even though I don't watch the show, I have also been hoping Lakisha will win it. I have to cheer for my fellow Michigan native!

Seriously, though I do love the idea of American Idol. It allows true talent to hit our entertainment industry, so that the public isn't stuck with the 'talent' produced by the high levels of fraternization within the entertainment industry.

Lakisha is most certainly my favorite to win it this season! Yo, Go Dogggg (a la' Randy Jackson)

Just a thought. Wink

Re: American Idol

To say the male singers this year are "low quality singers" and that Blake is an "average singer" is a flawed statement.  EVERY single guy on there is definitely above average because the average singer just plain sucks and doesn't know how to sing period.  What you SHOULD say is they are low-quality RELATIVE to what is expected of them.  I'm pretty sure Blake is 10 times better than any singer most of you know.  I'm just saying...while some of the guy singers are "low-quality" compared to American Idol standards, they certainly aren't low-quality in general.

And yes, Sanjaya just needs to go home.  Every time Seacrest says "Sanjaya, you are safe.", you can see the look on Sanjaya's face that just says "WTF!!! I know I suck, what am I still doing here?"  But even Sanjaya is an above average singer, he just sucks in American Idol standards and doesn't belong on the show.

Re: American Idol

MY particular statement about the guys being low quality and Blake being average are simply my opinion therefore not flawed, thank you. To me, average is someone who can carry a tune and might be entertaining but won't last. I have watched AI for the last 5 years and have seen many guys come through who were amazing and these guys just don't cut it. I'm guessing you are very partial to Blake but he's certainly NOT "ten times better than any singer" most of us know. He's entertaining and that's not enough.

I'm not necessarily partial to Blake.  I'll agree...he's unique and probably my favorite male singer this season, but I don't think he's an amazing singer.

But if you were to take 100 random people off the streets, in order for Blake to be "average", about 50 of those random people would have to sing better than him and 50 would have to sing worse.  Honestly, I don't see that happening.  He may be "average" compared to past contestants on the show, but he's certainly not average in general.

For the last couple of seasons, I didn't miss an episode. Things have changed in my life and other priorities have come into play, and I just don't have the time to sit down and watch it. I might catch it once a month now. I think its a great show and the idea behind it is great.

I did, however, catch the show where Kellie Pickler sang and just have to say, that girl should not have gotten breast implants, she didn't need them IMO.

Re: American Idol

OH! Do NOT get me started! I don't care how old I am, I LOVE American Idol. It oftentimes makes me crazy but it's fun! And, for the record, I don't vote. I'm not THAT addicted.

The last cast offs were dealt a bum deal! I absolutely can't stand that Sunjia (yeah... how the hell DO you spell it??) is still there and ever was. Sundance was awesome but America obviously wants some pretty boy. Testimony to the fact that most of the voters are probably pre-pubescent. And why oh why did they get rid of Sabrina and keep that one girl with not-enough-talent-to-even-make-me-remember-her-name?? Oh yeah, you said Antonella. The people who vote don't get it. I think Sunjia (?) is only there because he has that cute, innocent, younger version of Michael Jackson quality. He should stick to trying out at Six Flags venues.

My biggest complaint and the one thing that ALWAYS irritates me to no end is why the contestants don't get it that slow romantic songs are not what will showcase their talent. I'm sorry, anyone can do that. Show me what you can do!

And whoever said it is right... this year's batch of guys really are low quality singers. Blake has a lot of talent with the beatbox and scatting stuff but his voice is average. Most of the guys are simply average.

This year's winner will definitely be a woman and it's a toss up between which it will be. I'm rooting for Melinda. But between her and Lakisha and Stephanie, it's a toss up. Those girls can SING!!

But someone please tell me WHY WHY WHY won't Randy Jackson effin grow up and talk like a man. I mean, "Yo dogg" is getting so OLD! He opens his mouth to talk and it comes out like a 15 year old. I just want him to shut up!

Okay, I'm done now. Stay tuned next week! Sticking out tongue

Ok I'll also admit it, I do watch Idol, but on my behalf it is addicting! I totally agree about the Pickler thing and when Ryan asked her what she had bought she said Shoes! Ok Kelly we all believe you! LOL But I didn't think Sundance should have gone but I guess I don't vote either so I can't complain to much!
I also tink that Chris should have won last year which is apparent now since he has a big hit and Taylor really doesn't have anything except a commercial! Oh well I guess. I still like Idol it is fun to watch these people like (Carey) get there big break and be really humbled by it! Well hope ya'll are having a good day!

I havent really kept up with this season the few times i did watch I was left in udder shock due to the lack of talented singers in the mens cata-gorey. I think I really lost intrest when Taylor Hicks won last year i thought he was by far one of the worst singers to grace Idols stage. Now Chris he has real talent.
