Problem with Adblock Plus

hello, I apologize if this is in the wrong area. I don't post that much so I wasn't sure were to put it. I messing around on my computer last night and noticed that adblock wasn't blocking anything and come to find out that something had erased all my filter lists. The only thing I can think of that could be the cause is I believe Firefox had an update earlier this week. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up to maybe double check their adblock filters.

The thing that happened to me was that adblock had turned itself off without me noticing it...I think I even got tracked Surprised

I was going to say I don't have any issues either. Did you check your settings on your adblock to make sure you don't have anything off.

Also another thing that alot of ppl don't know you can add our list to your filter subscriptions. That way it checks the list everyday and updates it. Say your out of town and you miss a update that we have it will auto update your list for you. To do this go to:

Tools

Adblock Plus

Filters

Add Filter Subscription

for Title put something like: GUG Tracker blocks

for location add this URL (gug's filters): http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/3/8/862800/tracker_adblock_list2.txt

make sure you check BOTH: Update Auto & Enable Filter

click on "OK"

at this point it will auto update for you Eye-wink

Thanks for the tip smartmom, i didn't know that! Even if it updates once a week it's perfect for me, I forgot to update it sooo many times.

thank you SO MUCH smartmom! i have been wondering how to do this for a long time now but hadn't gotten around to searching for instructions.

 

i discovered last night that the GuG filters were gone from my laptop Firefox, but I think it's b/c i wiped the laptop clean and reinstalled the whole system, and forgot to back up my filters to re-add to Firefox when i was done.

You're all welcome.

It's just a extra nice insurance policy. If you forget it will do it for you. As Bottlebob said it may not do it everyday but better than nothing or missing it. I did look at mine and it did last update on the 22nd (a week ago) so yes Bob is right there. So if you see a update you might want to update it yourself even if you have the subscription.

updated here or on your filter subscription? For here simply go to the tracker page and up top Bottlebob will put the update in red with the date.

To check if you filter subscription is updating go to tools - adblock plus - then scroll down to find the filters it will tell you there when it updated. Here is a snap shot of mine:

 

Now note I use a Firefox theme so mine will look different (color and font) but it's the same basic thing.

Sorry but somehow I'm too stupid to find it on my list..I just have a list of the sites it's blocking, but I can't see when it was last updated.

edit: I'm also not able to see my filter subscriptions!!

Ok sorry nevermind now it worked, looks like it hadn't added the subscription the first time. Problem solved!

The only thing with subscriptions is that they don't update every day like they're supposed to but more like once a week.

 Firefox updated for me and my filters are still in place... you sure someone hasn't been messing with your computer?
