I get the following message when trying to open or watch a movie file from my daughter "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."
The problem seems to just be between her movie files and this particular computer. I can watch the movie files that her and/or her husband upload to myspace and I can watch the files at home. The problem at home is that we only have dial-up and it takes FOREVER. Here at my shop I can download in seconds yet I can't open her files (.avi)
I would appreciate any help you could offer.

When I try to legally download an MP3 it goes directly to Quick Time Player. Previously it went into Windows Media Player. How do I change my settings to open with Window Media Player and not quick time? Any simple resolution would be mush appreciated!
I think you have to go into quicktime player and uncheck it as the default player for .mp3's or go into WMP tools and make it the default player for .mp3's either way

I checked WMP under tools and quicktime player under preferences to change the setting but it didn't have anywhere to uncheck??? I know I was playing around with the settings to try and download a video via my phone which never worked and now I cannot find where the heck to set it back to go to WMP. Can you expaling exactly where the option is to uncheck or verify the setting?
in WMP go to tools then options then select the tab file type and select what file types you want WMP to use as default

I checked those settings and they are marked. It still goes directly to quick time. Do you know how I can check quick time settings as I may have set that as the default???
You will need to update your video codecs
try this one
