I'm hoping someone can give me a little insight as to why people put their age as "100" years old on myspace. I know there has to be a reason this girl I know does it, but I'm just not sure what the benefit is... She has a private profile but sometimes her age is 99 sometimes 100. Besides just being bored does anyone know why somebody would do this??
What's the reason behind people on myspace posting their age as 99 or 100yrs old?
I just figured it was to avoid being searched because they didn't want to be found. A lot of people tend to also make their profiles private when they "change" their ages, so it's harder to find out who it is.
I also agree that people do it to be silly. There are a lot of people that are 69 years old. . .
I don't think myspace allows you to browse past age 68, so when others are browsing, you wouldn't come up. Most browsers are slime balls posing as someone else anyway. I catch them with my tracker all of the time...most often from Africa..claiming to be single living in the US.
Some under 18 users use this because myspace has certain protections in place in terms of ads and other things that they are exposed to...and having 99 as an age bypass the age restrictions.
I think some adults use this (or the ever popular 69 - give me a break) to stay young online... in a world where 28 is kind of old in the myspace community, i can see why some people do this.
In the end, i guess it is just another measure of privacy or an attempt at some anonymity.
most of the people that i personally know who do this say they do it so that people who know them can't find them as easily. most of them also have private profiles. the ones who don't have private profiles say it cuts down on getting emails/friend requests from random people who use "browse" to try to find new people to meet since hardly anyone is on myspace trying to meet 99y olds. one person i know is actually ashamed of her age, which is sad, especially since she's younger than me!
One of the teenagers I know lists her age as 76, to avoid trollers. She also lists herself as male. Pedophiles aren't going to search MySpace for the private profile of a 76 year old man. Her profile is still set to private, but it's an extra layer of privacy. So far, she hasn't gotten any PMs from random strangers, so I guess it's working for her.
"We are stardust, we are golden, we are billion year old carbon
And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden"

.... that was just wrong...but it seems to work!
