Healthiest Time to Toss Common Bathroom Items

Healthiest Time to Toss Common Bathroom Items

How often do you change the items in your household that you use on a daily basis, either for health, beauty, or sanitary??

The applicators used to apply mascara, liner, and shadow are repeatedly exposed to bacteria in the air and on your lashes; after 6 months of everyday use, they can overpower the products' preservatives. Liquid products that don't touch the eyes, such as foundation, can be used for up to 2 years; dry face products like powder and lip items are generally formulated to last at least 3.

Heal wounds faster: Toss antibacterial cream after 1 year
Beyond a year, the antibiotic is probably still good, but the chemical mix in the ointment may start to go bad, which may make the product less effective.

Safeguard oral health: Replace your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months
The American Dental Association recommends a 3- to 4-month rotation because frayed and worn bristles don't clean as well--leaving teeth more vulnerable to decay.

There are other items out there that we should replace every so often, like cutting boards, toothbrushes, make-up, etc. What are some items in your household that you replace and how often?

Cleaning products also can go bad after a period of time or become less affective.

Also since I have already outed myself as being in the water business can I tell you that the drinking water filters go bad too.  If you have a under the sink filter or even one of those screw on filters you need to watch and replace (read the manufactures recommendation).  Depending on what filter you have will depending on how ofter.  Here is a rule of thumb it never let it go over a year and if it sits more than a month then you need to replace it.  Now I'm talking about carbon filters not membranes for reverse osmosis (those you can generally get about 3 yrs out of).  Also when you replace the filter - if you have a screw on type of filter where you replace the cartage then you need to clean out the housing with bleach.  If you don't clean it out you can very possibly contaminate the next filter.   If the salesperson told you that the filter would last you 5 years (like so many do to get the sale) he feed you a line of crap and bottom line you need to check with the manufacture.  I see hear of horror stories of ppl getting sick because the filter they got to remove the bacteria is so loaded that it is now added bacteria into the water.
