last seen 8 hours 29 min agoYou might have noticed that we had a minor glitch that resulted in the site being down for the last few hours.
Our data-center experienced a lightening strike and an extended power outage which brought the server down. The datacenter has a power-generator and power outages usually are not an issue, but the voltage spike from the lightening caused the server to 'trip' to protect itself - and it took a while to get things back online..
We're still on generator power, but things should work normally..

The datacenter is still on power generators. We ran into another issue (maybe someone forgot to put more gas in the generator?) which took the server down again for a few minutes. But all is normal again.. for now..
There are many server farms in Texas and Chicago as well. Some of the biggest in Texas, Savvis and Softlayer. Some in Northern California (San Francisco, and San Jose)

Here is what our power-system looks like when it's plugged-in and actually working:
VERY cool. Hey our datafarm is only like 2.5 hours from me. Another reason to pray for no Hurricanes to hit FL. Atleast Orlando is in the middle of the state so that it good! OH whoa big generator - I would hate to get that gas bill when that sucker is running or the a/c bill for that too. I know that server farms are big business now days!
I think we need to send the server farm a memo telling them yesterday was May 23rd and not April 1st (april fools day).
OK curious where are the servers at? I know that southern CA has alot of them and AZ has the mother load of server farms. Where are ours at (so if we go down we can check the weather)?

OK that is funny because the last 3 days have SUCKED weather wise. Ummm did anyone tell you that FL is the capital of lightning strikes. About 4 years ago we fried our server at work via lightning. Yep we have battery backups and heavy duty surge protectors but nope to many hits and zapped the server. Thank goodness for online backup data storage (we backup every night to evault.com). Geeze hurricane season is coming up too.....yikes
As long as no data was lost! That would really suck. . .
I wondered what was going on. I thought it mighty unusual to not be able to get in here. Sorry about the lightning! We've been getting our fair share the last few days.
